Widely respected house/electro producer, Chris Lake, took to facebook recently to rant over his intolerance for the constant war of genres withing the electronic music community. He is one who very rarely speaks his mind, but the point he put forth found widespread support from a dozen of his peers and contemporaries within the scene.
He defines in his rant, how after so many years within the electronic music industry, he still can’t get over why it’s so divided between genres. He said he couldn’t comprehend the fact that there is such little tolerance amongst DJs and fans for other genres. He went on to say that he loves almost everything within the broad spectrum of electronic music, but it’s the lack of tolerance that he finds disturbing.
After all these years in this scene, it still staggers me how little tolerance there is amongst DJ’s and fans for each genre. Techno hates everything, Europe disses EDM, Dubstep vs D&B. Well, I don’t care. I’ll tell you what I don’t like. Narrow minded assholes.
I love all the genre’s. The deep stuff, the overly technical stuff, the really simple, frankly indulgent ‘commercial’ stuff. I’m open, but the hatred and lack of tolerance shown for each others parts of the scene is disturbing.
Maybe it’s all because deep down, we each think our musical taste is the right choice, and everyone else is wrong?
Rant over.
