BMG, the world’s fourth largest publisher has pulled off a shocker, acquiring UK dance label Loaded Records and its subsidiary Skint, including veteran producer Fatboy Slim’s entire recording catalog, amongst others. The acquisition allows worldwide rights (ex. North America) to five Fatboy Slim albums, including his 1998 chart buster “You’ve Come A Long Way Baby“.
BMG Chrystalis UK EVP Alexi Cory-Smith said,
“Skint and Loaded are among the most influential and successful UK independent labels and we are delighted to add them to our growing international catalogue of recordings. There is significant potential in particular in the peerless Fatboy Slim catalogue and we will ensure it gets the attention it deserves.”
First founded in 1990 by JC Reid and Tim Jeffrey, Loaded was one of the pioneers of UK’s ever evolving house music scene. With the arrival of Damien Harris five years later, Skint was founded and the “Big Beat” scene made its way to the surface, led by artists like Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers. The two labels combined have the rights to around 2,500 tracks and have sold around 10 million albums and 15 million singles. In January 2013, they also secured the rights to US label Strictly Rhythm and earlier this year, BMG also took over Talpa Music, a publisher with rights to songs from huge artists such as Afrojack and Laidback Luke.
