Nearly 3 decades in the industry, and its all still going right for Pete Tong! The dance music mogul celebrated two distinct landmarks of his career last year. One was seeing the completion of a double decade of his legendary and iconic talent scouting radio show BBC Radio 1, and the other was being announced as be one of the honorary recipients of the prestigious MBE award!
He’s just been awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) award in recognition of ‘his services to broadcasting and music’, a feature that has seen him promote some of the most eclectic talents ever to grace Dance Music in our time. The cherry on the cake was of course being bestowed the honor by the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William. Here’s what Pete had to say about receiving the honor.
It’s a great honour, I never expected it, starting out DJing… I count myself lucky to be recognised in this way. I’ve been standing here for a few hours waiting to do this and still have to pinch myself — I’ve spent my career doing something I love, playing records.
