Tomorrowland: 5 artists not to miss this year!

Tomorrowland is back this weekend with what looks to be one of their biggest in the history of the festival with tickets having been sold in the record time of… wait for it… one second!

This Belgian gathering will see a 200,000 strong international crowd once again this year all flocking to see some of the greatest dance and electronic artists of the world on the festival’s massive range of stages. As well as the main stage showcasing some of 2013’s biggest acts, there’ll be fourteen others hosted by the likes of V Sessions, Cocoon Heroes, Bonzai, Star Warz and Samsung Secret Forest. The event will be spread over the 26th – 28th July 2013 in the town of Boom in the Flemish district of Flanders.

This years instalment includes Dutch DJ Tiesto and Swedish house producer Sebastian Ingrosso for the Friday, while the Grammy nominated Avicii and trance DJ Armin van Buuren are Saturday’s main attraction. Sunday features a special triple DJ set from David Guetta, Afrojack and Nicky Romero which definitely makes any fast-thinking ticket holder even more lucky people.

With so many stellar artists performing, you’re bound to find yourself confused on which artists to watch and who to possibly skip. To make things easier, we give you a list of 5 artists whom you shouldn’t miss this year at Tomorrowland, hit past the break and read ahead now!

Markus Schulz

Over the last 10 years Markus Schulz has crafted the individual musical identities of progressive & trance into his own unique hybrid sound. The combined influence of his headlining DJ sets; Armada and Coldharbour label releases and highly prominent Global DJ Broadcast radio show have placed him at the forefront of the dance music revolution. This success has been reflected in weekly sets spun in front of tens of thousands, a GDJB listenership up in the millions and critically acclaimed albums, including ‘Do You Dream?’ and most recently ‘Scream’.

Following several highly ranked positions, in 2008 Schulz broke into the # 10 of DJ Mag’s Top 100 chart. He’s remained there for the last four straight years, most recently polling #9 in 2011. In late 2012 he came #1 in US EDM magazine DJ Times’ annual DJ poll and was named America’s Best DJ. Playing over 150 gigs a year, he has become the busiest international DJ playing out of the United States. Through his natural audience interaction, flawless, intuitive harmonic mixing, unparalleled tune selection and now famous open-till-close sets, he has wowed crowds in every major metropolis.

Members of the dance music community collectively tipped their hats to him most recently when he announced that he’d be playing a twelve-hour marathon set at Tomorrowland, this year. Sure he’s done it before, and has experience with marathon sets pre-fame as a resident DJ, but taking the act outdoors at one of the world’s most popular festivals is something to celebrate.

Don’t miss Markus’s marathon 12-hour set on Friday, July 26th!

Superman, Ironman, & Batman

Bringing his global Super You&Me concept to perhaps its grandest stage, Laidback Luke and his friends will be in nothing short of a festive mood when letting loose at Tomorrowland this weekend.

Last year saw a special back-to-back-to-back set at the aforementioned stage, coming from DJs using their superhero aliases. Laidback Luke played the role of Superman, Martin Solveig took on Batman, and Chuckie costumed up as Spiderman.

This year, Spiderman will be replaced by Iron Man for a special ‘Superman, Ironman, & Batman’ set. Assuming Luke and Solveig reprise their roles, it is still mysterious as to who will complete the trio and assume the role of Iron Man however possibilities include Benny Benassi and Tommy Trash.

Definitely one set not to miss. Join us in uncovering the mystery of Ironman on Saturday, July 27th!

Eric Prydz

They say that fortune favours the brave. For the incredibly talented, Eric Prydz, a bold musical agenda and an unrivalled ability to combine commercial success with underground notoriety, has allowed him to achieve worldwide recognition with his integrity intact.

His labels Pryda and Mouseville, have allowed Prydz to remain something of an enigma yet being a household name. Both labels are held in the highest regard by an adoring underground scene, though their releases are made available with scarcely any promotion. Musically, they’ve become genre-defining stables in their own right, and are two of the most successful and influential dance labels in the world.

Ever since Eric Prydz made his stateside return almost one year ago, he has made his case for the “king of dance” title and continues to strengthen it day by day. While Eric’s day two closing set is a unanimous must-attend, an eclectic selection of unique talents will occupy his Sessions stage from dawn to dusk. Unequivocally the stage that should be most frequently visited.

Catch Eric throw down a glorious set on Saturday, July 27th!

Avicii

If Avicii‘s set this year at Ultra Music Festival, Miami was anything to go by we are certain to be enthralled by the World #3’s performance on the ‘Main Stage’.

We’re definitely looking forward to catching the Swede with his entire arsenal of live musicians and collaborators, whom he’d played with in Miami but that may or may not happen since there isn’t much buzz about it. However, even in the latter case it would certainly be splendid to check out tracks from his hotly anticipated debut “True”.

We are definitely not going to be missing out and advise you don’t miss out on the enticing spectacle as well. Join us for Avicii’s set on Saturday, 27th July!

Dyro

Energetic young-gun, remix maestro, house music magician. To those in the know, he’s one of Holland’s future megastars. For those still waiting to discover this phenomenal young artist, be quick before he wins a breakthrough trophy.

Alongside stellar productions of his own, Dyro has kept himself busy remixing a number of heavyweights. Tunes by Hardwell & Dannic and R3hab have already been given the Dyro treatment, with the latter pronouncing him to be, “one of (his) favourite producers of the moment”.

At quite a young age, he already has a near-psychic ability to know what will make an audience explode. Merging huge progressive house with bone-crunching electro drops, Dyro conjures an orgasmic peak-time sound that demands an explosive reaction. According to him, energy is the core element in each of his tracks.

Additionally, there are some more remixes and collaborations in the works for Dyro in the coming months and with a rapidly growing profile along side legions of online fans already baying for new material, the road ahead looks clear indeed for this bright young star from Leiden.

We can certainly expect a brilliant set from the young Dutch, catch him in action on Sunday, July 28th!
