The Moombahton/Dancehall phenomenon that is Major Lazer has released a new mix on POTATOwillEATyou, which is ran by Diplo himself alongside A-trak and Skrillex.
Titled as the Workout mix it only comes as irony as if Major Lazer’s singles weren’t already a workout by themselves.
Insane would be an understatement for this mix because it definitely doesn’t do justice to the amount of variations, the number of drops and the changes in tempo it consists of ! This workout mix is a bomb full of red, yellow and green waiting to explode in your face. Major Lazer’s stuck to his no nonsense brand of reggae/dub tracks featuring household names like the Partysquad, Bauuer and even rising reggae artists such as Mavado and Popcaan who was recently featured in a track alongside Snoop Lion which was produced by none other than Major Lazer himself. The mix starts off with the wrestling legend, Hulk Hogan shouting out for the Major which just formulates the momentum for the start followed by the amazing remix of Bunji Garlin’s Ready for the Road. This is just the perfect intro any producer could ask for with enough build up and stabs to get everyone moving. Partysquad’s Lion takes over next with their signature drop of looped vocals which they cannot get enough off. Major Lazer does a smart job of mixing his singles from his latest album Free the Universe throughout this mix from Jah No Partial to Watch Out for This (Bumaye) just adding onto the booty shaking.
One of the surprise singles in the mix is something you’d least expect Diplo to remix and that song is Gangnam Style ! Yes you read it right, Diplo remixes Gangnam Style replacing the popular loop with a more Trappy melody which honestly sounds great! Need to commend Major Lazer for featuring a lot of Trap singles in the mix for all those people who love this rising genre. Just adds onto the fact of how Diplo is so different as a producer and is open to producing tracks in genres which will be anything but mainstream
