Last year was officially the first ever Electric Daisy Carnival that took place in New York City. Technically, the site of the festival took place at Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands which is in New Jersey and not New York, but who would ever want to go to EDC NJ? Last year was a huge success but it wasn’t that smooth a process as the festival changed from two days to three days after it had already sold thousands of two-day passes to eager ravers looking to bring the famous Vegas festival to the east coast with a BANG. Last week marked phase 1 of this year’s EDC lineup which includes some familiar faces who played last year and caught the Bagin Beats’ attention. The article focusses on last year’s Size Matters stage that was uniquely held inside the stadium and on the actual field where the New York Football Giants and Jets play football every Sunday during the National Football League (NFL) season. The Size Matters stage which is named after Steve Angello’s record company have some acts that are returning this year on the Phase 1 lineup of EDC after they tore it up last year, including last year’s headliner Steve Angello and rising superstar Thomas Gold. The songs featured in this article are Show Me Love, Judas (Thomas Gold Remix), Knas, and Alive.
Show Me Love –
This is a timeless throwback with vocals and beats composed by Laidback Luke and Steve Angello way back in the days before he began working with Swedish House Mafia and the three Swedes captivated the world with their own productions.
Judas-
This is a fantastic remix done by Thomas Gold as he remixes Lady Gaga’s original song “Judas” with an electronic twist at the drop of the song. At the end of the article you can find a lightshow done to accompany this song at EDC Las Vegas in 2011 when Swedish House Mafia absolutely annihilated the Main Stage with one of their classic and intimate sets.
Knas –
This is arguable Steve Angello’s most prolific song produced as an individual artist since he joined forces with Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso to form SHM. If you like this song, there are a seemingly infinite remixes done by just about every musician so you can pick and choose which ones you want on your iPod’s “TBT” playlist. You will also find either this song or a remix of this song featured in just about every live set by every dj in the calendar year that this song came out in.
Alive –
This is the kind of song that is the “feel good song of the summer” for generations to come as Thomas Gold and Dirty South produced a masterpiece with the help of the beautiful singer Kate Elsworth who provided her voice to add the absolute perfect vocals to this track. Look for Thomas Gold to repeat last year’s performance on the Size Matters Stage by putting on an absolutely breathtaking performance again this year at EDC.
Check out this video below of Swedish House Mafia performing Judas, which is the second song posted in this article and was originally composed by Lady Gaga but remixed by Thomas Gold. If the lightshow at this years EDC can be anything close to what occurs at 0:15 and 2:30, then it will truly be worth every penny to go this year (Warning: Do NOT watch this video if you are epileptic).
