Recently Submerge got the duo NO_ID to India for a 2-city tour of India to Indore & Bangalore and it was quite an experience seeing how the crowds responded to their music. The duo famous for their hits like “How R U Feeling Right Now”, “Zelda”, “Sex Sells” and more also had a great time on the tour and what so more, we got a chance to have a superb interview the Dutch duo!

Read ahead to know what Devi & Ralph better known as NO_ID thought of their India tour, their origin, their inspirations, the road ahead & more now!

Hello. Welcome to thebanginbeats.com! You’ve recently concluded your tour in India, and we would love to know all about it!

Q) First things first, this is “NO_ID”’s first Asia tour, and you guys started with India! How’s the experience been so far?

NO_ID: It was a really impressive experience! We had such a good time in India. The crowd was going crazy here and everyone is so friendly!

Q) What’s been your most memorable moment while on tour in India?

NO_ID: One of the most memorable moments was receiving two pairs of customized shoes after our Bangalore gig from a fan. They were hand painted and look really cool!

Q) Before coming down here, did you guys have any prior knowledge about the dance music scene in India? If yes, has it lived up to your expectations?

NO_ID: We’ve heard that the scene is really growing here. We made an exclusive mix for the In the mix radio show at radio 1 some months ago and there was a lot of good feedback to that mix on our Social Media sites. We spoke to fellow DJ’s who had played in India before, and they all said it was amazing. After the gigs in Bangalore and Indore we can only say that they were right, it was beyond our expectations!

Q) Moving ahead, we heard the two of you believe in a philosophy which is attached with naming yourselves “NO_ID”. Could you elaborate?

NO_ID: We have a kind of a vision how we want to treat our music and what it’s all about. With the name NO_ID we can do what we want and don’t think in any boxes. We make music that we love and try to blend different genres of house music!

Q) You kick started your career as producers in 2008, and won the “Amsterdam Dance Event Demolition Contest” with a track called “Wurld”. How has life been for the two of you moving ahead from that? Did you think you’d be touring with the likes of Swedish House Mafia back then?

NO_ID: It’s like a dream come true. When we won the demolition contest at the Amsterdam Dance Event in 2008 we were just happy to release our first track on an established label. After our first release we were hooked and wanted to build on our reputation but to be honest we didn’t think we would come so far so quickly and end up working with The Swedish House Mafia!

Q) Tell us a little about how you guys met and how NO_ID came into being. Also, if you guys weren’t producers, what do you reckon you’d have chosen your career paths as?

NO_ID: Well we started off the NO_ID project in 2008, joining forces then, actually just for fun never knowing where it would lead us. We had the same passion for music and wanted to try something new. We know each other from playing field hockey back in the day and Devi was already playing in some local clubs. I guess it was just a natural thing to do!
If we weren’t making music Ralph would probably pursue his real estate career, which he has a degree in and Devi would probably be at some crime scene dusting prints as he studied forensic science.

Q) Your material has been released on several labels including Cr2 Records, Armada Music, Ultra Records, Spinnin’ Records to name a few. What is it like having your material released on so many different labels? Is there any label that you have worked with so far that you have especially enjoyed in particular?

NO_ID: We have been producing music for several years now, releasing our tracks on a lot of different labels, which in the beginning is a good thing, you want to reach as many people as possible with your product. More recently we started working with the Axtone Records team, which has been amazing! They are lovely guys with a lot of passion for good music.

Q) Could you give us a little insight about your studio and the equipment you use?

NO_ID: Well, this year we both started to do our production work mainly on our two Macbook Pro’s with Logic Pro. The thing is with all the touring it becomes a necessity to be able to work on the road. We work on sketches and tracks on our travels, and once back in our Amsterdam based studio we plug in the laptop’s to our Event Opal monitors and we start finalizing our idea’s. It works a treat!

Q) Where do you guys get your inspiration from when creating music? Are there any names in or outside the dance music industry that you draw inspiration from?

NO_ID: The fun part of being a producer is that while you are making music your inspirations can come from literally any place you can imagine. So there is no particular spot to look for inspiration. Just make sure you keep you eyes and ears pealed for that one moment your big idea pops into your head!

Q) What lies ahead for “NO_ID”? Any upcoming releases or collaborations you’d wish to mention?

NO_ID: We are currently finalizing a new Remix, something we have been working hard on for quite some time. We are stoked for that to come out soon. We’ve also been working with the Prok & Fitch guys lately to try and come up with a really fresh new project.

Q) You recently supported Swedish House Mafia on their One Last Tour in San Francisco. Could you tell us a little about the experience? What was it like sharing stage with artists like them?

NO_ID: To play a part in such a great show around the world and work with such talented guys has been a real privilege throughout the year. It has been really inspiring to see these guys work from close by. Playing just that little role in such a huge production will definitely be something to look back on after a couple of years!

Q) Finally, a message for your fans that came out to watch you?

NO_ID: Thank you so much for coming out to see us play, we had such a great time with you! We will be back for sure!

Thank you so much for talking to thebanginbeats.com! We look forward to seeing you in India again.
