The Oscars of EDM are back! The 28th Annual International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) are going to be held during the Winter Music Conference (WMC) between March 15-24, 2013.
Here is a quick heads up on what to expect from this gala event –
To start with – The most unique thing about the IDMA’s is that they are going to be held right in between the Ultra Music Festival weekends. Essentially, for all music lovers the dates between March 15th and 24th are going to be simply all about the love for electronic dance music!
The IDMA is the oldest and the most recognized award ceremony in the EDM circuit where it gives credit to all those achievers in the field of EDM. On an average, 2 million votes are registered for the awards that are given across 56 categories.
The awards vary across many levels. You have categories that are as diverse as the “Best Producer”, “Best Music Label” to the “Best DJ Software” and the “Best Global Club”.
At this year’s award ceremony, there is a lot of fierce competition amongst everyone connected in the EDM scene that had so much success in the year 2012.
Both Arty and Armin Van Buuren lead with two nominations each for the “Best Trance Track”. Then we also have a huge competition for the “Best Music Event” category where the likes of Sensation, UMF, Coachella, Tomorrowland and EDC will all be fighting for the top spot.
My pick of the award categories are the “Best Break-Through DJ” award and the “Best Progressive Track” award. For the first one, I feel that it will be a very close call between the two favorites – Tommy Trash and the duo of Dmitri Vegas/Like Mike. Alesso won the second category last year with his super track “Pressure”. This year he comes back strongly to win this one again as his track “Years” has been nominated. However, Avicii’s “Silhouettes, Calvin Harris’s “Sweet Nothing” and “The Veldt” by Deadmau5 will certainly provide a huge competition to win this award.
The voting for the IDMA’s will end on March 1st, 2013.
