Ultra Music and Sony Announce Partnership

Seems like EDM is making its presence felt everywhere!

After festivals being heavily promoted and brought across continents, we now have a massive partnership taking place between two huge music labels. Sony Music Entertainment and Ultra Music label have announced a global strategic partnership between the two companies.  Under the agreement, current president of Ultra Music, Patrick Moxey has been given a newly crafted position of President, Electronic Music at Sony Music Entertainment.

Ultra Music as you all know is one of the biggest powerhouses in the EDM circuit. It’s current roster includes the likes of Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Calvin Harris, Above and Beyond, and others. Then they also have their biggest USP which is the Ultra Music Festival that is slated to take place across the U.S, Brazil, Argentina, Korea and Croatia in 2013.

Under this agreement, recordings from Sony Music’s dance music catalog will now be included on Ultra Music’s successful compilation series. Outside of North America, Sony Music and Ultra will share resources to promote Ultra’s artists worldwide. On the other hand, you will also get to see Ultra Music market the Sony artists within the U.S and Canada circuit on a project-by-project basis.

Newly appointed President of Electronic Music at Sony Music, Patrick Moxely perfectly sums it up by saying that, “This is an exciting deal for Ultra and I have a partner in Doug Morris and Sony Music who understands our business and shares our ethos. The collaboration will continue to strengthen Ultra as a global brand at the forefront of electronic music, opening up new opportunities for both labels and will ensure that our artists will continue to receive an enhanced and seamless service.”

An interesting thing to note over here is that although the takeovers and partnerships sound very exciting for of us, it is however very important to know that we can’t let the big corporate companies use the EDM world for their own selfish reasons. For all of us EDM lovers, we definitely don’t want to face a situation of having no option but to buy expensive tickets for the only festival being run by the only big name organizer in our area. Personally, I rather see an option of two or maybe three different festivals like we have today covering a variety of artists across multiple genres!

Regardless of anything – Nothing can take away our love for the music!
