Artist Of The Month – Alesso (January 2013)

The dominance of the swede’s in the world of dance music today is undeniable and the huge crowds they draw in is no surprise given their talent. At the forefront of this Swedish invasion into the land of EDM stands a young but superb talent known as Alessandro Lindblad better known by his stage name Alesso.
Only 21, the swede has been steadily rising as the one to watch out for on the scene.With fellow Swede Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia as his mentor, its no surprise Alesso has managed to make quite a name for himself in such a short space of time.
Describing his mentor, the famous Seb Ingrosso, Alesso said – “He’s been an amazing person. He’s like a brother to me. We’ve been working so hard. He’s been helping with everything. He has so much experience. He’s been doing this for 10 years. So he knows what to think about and what to not think about. What to focus on, with the shows and music. What’s important and its helped me a lot.”

His remix of “Pressure” by Nadia Ali, Starkillers & Alex Kenji was one of the most played songs of the year back then. In the same year he made his debut on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ list in 2011, garnering the 70th spot.

Being one of 2011′s hottest new artists was enough for him to be named as the EDM artist to watch out for in 2012 and come 2012, Alesso had probably the most amazing year of his life. He debuted his first BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, ranked at No. 20 on the Top 100 DJs list by DJ Magazine in 2012 and brought a host of hits.
Talking about his work, Alesso’s talent can well be established by the number of releases this year which went on to top the Beatport charts and make it on to every podcast which dance music lovers across the globe listen to on a regular basis. Some of the biggest releases by Alesso in 2012 were;

As a fun fact, it’s not known to many Alesso is a fan of rock music, which was evidenced in his popular remix of Keane’s Silenced By The Night, which ended up topping the Beatport charts and many other prominent dance music charts. The producer par excellence has admitted that he would love to break new ground and surprise people with unusual remixes of popular singles far removed from the dance genre. He was quoted as saying - “I love to do remixes. Keane was definitely one of them, I love Keane, they’re one of my favourite bands. Then Adele and Coldplay, I love that kind of music”.
Even when asked what we can expect from Alesso this year, he went on to say – “I want to get a bit more influenced with rock and put it in a dance record. I want to make different records, maybe something… new genres, I want to mix it up”.
