With Swedish House Mafia who can easily be touted as – “The Face of Mainstream Progressive House Music” comprising of Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell & Steve Angello ready to take Delhi and Mumbai by storm this weekend we decided to give you a lowdown on how these three men started making music together, how the journey began and how they’ve led you to tell yourself – “Don’t You Worry Child, Heavens Got A Plan For You”.
History
Angello and Ingrosso met as children in Stockholm, Axwell did not become a member until years later when they contacted him after a chance meeting. They have been working together since 2005 but it all started in 2007 when they released their first track “Get Dumb” along with the dutch producer Laidback Luke. Since then they started touring and thrashing clubs & festivals all over the world.
Most of you might not know but the Swedish ace producer Eric Prydz was also a part of the group initially but couldn’t follow up since he had a fear of flying and was not able to go on tour with the trio. In 2009, they released another track with Laidback Luke called “Leave the World behind“, after that the trio started gaining mass following across the world.
The Journey Together
They released their first official single, “One (Your Name)“, under the name Swedish House Mafia on Beatport on May 26, 2010, where it attained international success, charting at number 7 in the UK Singles Chart. The next single, “Miami 2 Ibiza“, featuring Tinie Tempah, charted at number 4 in the UK Chart in September 2010.
They released their first compilation album in 2010 called “Until One” which included their singles “One”, “Miami 2 Ibiza” and “Leave the World Behind” alongside their solo hits and bootlegs.
In May 2011, Swedish House Mafia released a new single, “Save The World” featuring John Martin on vocals, which charted at number 10 in the UK Chart.
Later that year on December 16, they released the track “Antidote” with Knife Party.
On March 12, 2012, Swedish House Mafia released their next single titled “Greyhound“.
The trio is ranked at #12 on the DJ Mag polls 2012 and was at #10 in 2011.
On June 24, 2012 the group announced via their website that their current tour would be their last together before a hiatus i.e. the #OneLastTour and quoting their words – “Today we want to share with you, that the tour we are about to go on will be our last. We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came, we raved, we loved”.
Their final track “Don’t You Worry Child” feat. the vocals of John Martin was released on September 14, 2012 which quickly topped the charts worldwide. That same month on September 17, the group announced the release of a second compilation album titled Until Now, forming the official soundtrack to One Last Tour. The album was released on October 22, 2012, exactly two years after the release of their first compilation album Until One.
And Further
Before embarking on their last mega-tour, Swedish House Mafia asked fans to submit photos resembling their iconic three dot logo. Ranging from eggs and nail polish to bagels and bottle caps, they released a five minutes mini-mix video previewing their last album “Until Now” along with their countless fan pictures.
Kicking off their One last tour in Dubai (Nov 16), they’ll head off to India for their first & last performances in the country at Mumbai (Nov 17) & New Delhi (Nov 18). Axwell’s love for India and the hardwork of Sunburn & Submerge along with Swedish House Mafia MGMT made this possible in India.
Axwell who has been to four-odd Sunburn festivals in India says, “I was there at the first year of Sunburn, and I have seen it grow. Since Day 1, the party people in India have been delivering out of this world energy and it’s just become bigger and bigger, so it’s really exciting to come here and play for you guys.”
In fact, he says, “Not only is it very enjoyable to be in India as part of the tour, but it is also a fantastic place to perform at. So now that we were doing our one last tour as the Swedish House Mafia, we were really determined that we wanted to go to India together, and India seemed really determined to have us also – so it was great.”
Unlike most artistes who fly down to India and fly back immediately, this trio seems a lot more invested in the trip. There’s been talk of filming a documentary, meeting the film frat, and eating Indian food after a hearty dose of sight-seeing.
The tickets for the concert in Mumbai sold out in about 6-hours creating a record of fastest ticket selling event in India of that scale.
The concert is taking place at Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai and at Unitech Golf Course in Noida.
The official ticketing partner are Book My Show where you can grab the last few tickets for the event. You can check out the official promo here.

After touring numerous countries on their One Last Tour, their final curtain will take place at the Ultra Music Festival 2013 which they revealed on their video “The Final Announcement“. The final performances will happen on the opening and closing nights of the festival (Friday, March 15th and Sunday, March 24th) as the festival being spread over two weekends. The sets will mark the conclusion of the group’s final world tour.
Swedish House Mafia said in a statement: “Ultra was the first place we really built a show for a main stage. We filmed the whole thing and we played ‘ONE’ for the first time on that stage. It was a moment we would never forget and became the closing scene in our film, ‘Take One.’ The energy of the crowd was unbelievable and the fact that it’s part of Miami Music Week where so much new music is born made it even more special. It just felt right that we finished where so much was started and we’re honored to open and close the festival.”
