R3hab just played a spanking DJ set here in New Delhi and ohh was it was huge. Full of dutch house and commercial house chart toppers it was one hell of a set which he played to a full audience at Kitty Su, with a tracklist inculding a huge mashup of “Rolling in the deep” with “Koko” he completely annihalated the club. For me the moment of the night was when he dropped Swedish House Mafia‘s new track “Don’t you worry child” and the boys at Deep Sound Entertainment let off confettii poppers right at the drop. Truly was one hell of a night!
We also caught up with the man to do a small interview with him, do give it a read !!
Hello from Bangin Beats! This is our first exclusive interview!
Q1) Tell us how did it feel like to be playing in India? What did you expect from the crowd here?
R3HAB: Feels Great! First Time in India, Never Expected such a response from the Indian Crowd. Its overwhelming.
Q2) How much do you know about the music scene here? Have you heard of any artists?
R3HAB: Don’t know much. Heard a few stuff. Music here is diverse. I’ve heard of Punjabi Mc. I actually sort of used a indian scale on my track “Pump The Party” I love music from different countries in the world
Q3) Would you be willing to collaborate with any Indian artists in the future?
R3HAB: If there’s a good opportunity to get in touch with the good producers here, Why Not? Surely a thing for the future.
Q4) Since you’ve come to India, what are the things that you’re looking forward to most? Is Indian food on the agenda?
R3HAB: Wanted to Travel and see around but couldn’t this time. Being a short trip, completely jet lagged and very less time. Indian Food is Awesome. Its very colorful and has so much taste. The spices that they use here and the curry they make has refreshingly good taste. I ate lamb and the Rice, Mutton Roganjosh with the garlic naan was delicious.
Q5) You’ve been making waves on Wall Recordings. How and when did the leap to the label happen?
R3HAB: I’ve known Afrojack for a while, we started around the same age and same agency. It helped me out a lot to get signed to his label and get the promotion out.
Q6) What is the vibe surrounding a usual R3hab set like?
R3HAB: My sets are based on what the crowd is responsive to. I like to get the crowd going first and when the mood sets in, go all out with the music. Energy is really important.
Q7) Tell us somethingabout your “chainsaw” style?
R3HAB: Its a real roller coaster ride! Sweet musical breaks into complete madness when it drops!!
Q8) Your most memorable gig/concert?
R3HAB: Most memorable. Well that’s tough. Cuz they’ve all been really nice. But the ones that stand out would be EDC Las Vegas, Pacha New York, WMC, Arkadia, Nikki Beach, Tomorrowland, Kings of Ace and the entire Ibiza summer.
Q9) What is your opinion deadmau5‘s comment that most “DJ’s show up and click a play button at live concerts”?
R3HAB: Ohh! Did he say that. I have no clue about this. Must be, but as a Dj that’s not a good thing to do. Djing is all about spontaneity. You don’t know what kind of people would turn up for your show and how many. But as a Dj your job is to entertain the crowd with your music. People come to watch your dj skills and how well you can do it live.
Q10) Your current 5 favourite tracks?
R3HAB: Top 5 Tracks Would Be Years by Alesso, Swedish House Mafia‘s Don’t you worry child. I like my remix for turn up the love. Steve Aoki‘s Ladi Dadi and Feel the Dada by Dada Life
Q11) Your 5 favourite artists?
R3HAB: Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, Dada Life, Skrillex and Alesso
Q12) Dubstep is a relatively new genre & a lot of producers areincorporating shades of it into their tracks, could we see you incorporate itinto your tracks in the near future?
R3HAB: Dubstep is highup in the states. Got massive following there. I infact have some tracks coming up with dubby influences.
Q13) Finally a message & a quick tip to the young & budding DJ/Producer’s here in India & all overthe world?
R3HAB: Haha. Just be yourself. Don’t copy others. Do and produce whatever your best in. Relax your minds. You’ll get your own ideas. Thanks You very much for having me. Was a great tour. Both shows were nice n busy. Great job by the organizers Deep Sound Entertainment. And all the best for Bangin Beats!!
