Probably one of the first gigs that shaped the future of the Outdoor EDM space in India was undeniably the Indian leg of Swedish House Mafia’s infamous One Last Tour. It was one of the first times that India was a major part of a global tour so massive, so it is only natural for anyone who would have attended the event to be left with lasting memories that definitely won’t fade away any time soon.
Since then, there has been no looking back when it comes to India’s position on the global EDM space. We’ve had the pleasure to have been made privy to a number of some of the top ranking dance music acts in the world. But every now and then, when each one of us looks back to that faithful day in Bombay, Bangalore & Dehli that we all had the privilege of witnessing one of the biggest acts in the dance music world, set foot on our soil and give us an evening to last for probably a lifetime.
Now, its less than two weeks till we get to see two-thirds of the trio again. So it’s essentially another Swedish House Mafia tour, sans Steve Angello. Albeit a completely knew concept, new music and a whole lot of new energy, the vibe will, in essence, remain some-what the same, if not familiar. We have Axwell & Sebastien Ingrosso setting foot onto our sands again, as part of their massive DEP/RT/RES tour.
In light of that, we’ve put together a list of 10 things we can expect from the much awaited, much anticipated, and most looked-forward-to tour to kick off Sunburn Festival’s Season 8.
10. They Will Come, They Will Rave & They Will Love, All Over Again.
We all remember one of the most iconic tracks from SHM’s set, “We Come We Rave We Love.” It echoed exactly how they felt about coming to India, and in turn reflected exactly how we felt about hosting them. They showed us one of the most spectacular evening’s of our lives and we, in turn, gave them memories that they could hold on to forever. It’s only a matter of time that we go through all of that excitement and electricity, all over again.
9. Scores of Fans, United.
Remember that guy in the hat, you raged really hard with? or that cute girl in the tank top you smiled at when Don’t You Worry Child was dropped? or what about the super vibrant group of people with the SHM banner, that took turns holding each other up? It was a perfect evening for everyone to collectively share the love and joy of an event so grand. It was a perfect time for everyone to come together, irrespective of who they are otherwise, and bond over the massive joy they derive from a rave that monumental! We can live through all of that once again at the departures tour!
8. An Epic Intro
The evening was beautiful and the sun was just about setting. There was a huge banner covering the stage. We grew impatient, waiting to see what was to happen once the curtain dropped. Slowly, but steadily we could faintly hear the echoes of We Came, We Rave, We Love build up from the back, and right at the drop, the spectacular curtain fell, and the three kings that made up Swedish House Mafia, took to the stage. That moment was a culmination of the anticipation of thousands of fans, all awaiting to witness the spectacle to engulf them. Imagine reliving that very same rush and that very same peak of anticipation, all leading up to one massive show!
7. A Massive Sit Down
Sit-Downs have become common place whenever there’s a massive gathering for a show. The whole audience gets down to ground level at the build up, and progressively jumps at the drop! Of course this hadn’t happened when SHM were here. But who’s to say it wont happen now? Imagine, all of Bombay, collectively jumping up at a major drop. The sheer electricity in the air then would be absolutely breath-taking.
6. Insane Music
We heard a ton of brilliant Swedish House Mafia originals and some really unexpected, yet Bangin remixes during their set for One Last Tour. Now we’re going to be made privy to a ton of unreleased tracks from their new Departures album as well as, hopefully, some special unreleased edits of tracks that are already massive on the dance music scene. It would be a brilliant evening for the very best of dance music.
5. Chill Inducing Moments
Remember when the curtain dropped, unveiling Axwell, Ingrosso & Agnello? Or when they dropped that special edit of Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition”? The amount of smiles, and hugs and pure joy in the air at that moment? How about when they went on stage and raised the Indian flag? The moment of sheer nationalistic pride we felt was indescribable. There’s going to be all this and many, many more of such unreal moments in store, this time around. We’re pretty sure we’ll all have a fresh new bank of memories to hold close!
4. Massive Production
The amount of efforts of the Departures team combined with Sunburn’s brilliant outdoor production skill, will definitely result a brilliant visual spectacle that will leave us stunned and stupefied. The hypnotic light shows and effects, not to mentioned the massive stages that we’ve been made used to are all definitely going to be top notch!
3. Unreleased Productions
As seen from their show at Governor’s Island, there are a ton of super awesome unreleased music from their new album that we’d get to listen to! Both incredible producers on their own right, imagine the sheer ingenuity of their talents combined!
2. An Old Spark, A New Fire.
Mumbai had one of the best evenings in the history of outdoor entertainment, the last time Swedish House Mafia were here. That particular evening is going to be revisited and revamped to a whole new level this September. It’s going to be the same vibrant faces and fans of old, the same brilliant performances by the 2 stalwarts of electronic music, Axwell & Ingrosso and the same warmth and excitement! but a whole new venue, a whole new concept and a whole new show!
1. An Electric Evening To Last A Life Time
There are still so many times we find ourselves fondly remembering almost every Sunburn event we’ve been too. We still talk about the brilliance of One Last Tour and how lucky we were to witness the three giants in action. Those who missed out still find themselves regretting it to this day. This is another iconic event in dance music that we shouldn’t make the mistake of missing. It’ll be a mind boggling spectacle of brilliant music, positive vibes and hypnotic visuals. It’ll fill us with memories to last a lifetime, if not, a really really long time. We can, in future, fondly reminisce about such a great evening and how we were lucky enough to watch these two great titans of dance music, perform together for us, and have their combined energies and talents give us a show that won’t easily be forgotten.
