Diplo has been no stranger to raves and Plur Culture. However, in recent times, his Mad Decent Block Party has been in the nbews for all the wrong reasons, owing to the two fatalities at one of its recent shows. In reaction, Diplo had released a list of banned paraphernalia from the travelling show. Apart from regular security risk items like cups, eyedrops, unsealed gum, chapstick and tampons were understandable, Kandi jewellrey, LED gloves and Microlights used for light shows, pacifiers and lollipops also make it on the list of banned items. Though the latter items are essential to rave culture, the dance music fraternity has been left divided on this bold move by Diplo. Some applaud his effort in ensuring that the focus remains on the music and none of the theatrics involved, others feel that they are being stripped of the essential items that define the dance music culture.

This is what Diplo had to say about the move.

In other news however, Insomniac Events head, Pasquale Rotella, who has always been known to stand up for essence of dance music culture, retaliated with a post to his facebook wall. The seemingly unfair motive behind the banning of kandi seems to more or less override the non-judgmental essence of the electronic music community, discouraging fans from expressing themselves and robbing them of essential aspects of the dance music culture that they revere and respect.

A lot of people would argue that the simple essence of the dance music community is the unhindered ability for an individual to express oneself through various mediums, including apparel. Rotella addressed this argument on his facebook status and added that that not only do these beaded bracelets create bonds between individuals, but they unify us all as a loving, expressive community.
