We’re never going to be able to erase the 12th of May from our heads. That particular Sunday, was easily one of the highlights of our year.  For those of you, who (shamefully) need to be reminded, it was the day that Oji ripped our faces off. It was the evening of the spectacularly infamous Skream & Benga gig at Sitara Studios in Mumbai.

Now, Oji has released a recapitulation of what went down that day, and yes, as you can see, it was nothing short of unparalleled insanity. For those of you who were present, this is a perfect opportunity for you to have semi seizures, like y’all did that night, once again. For those of you who missed it, this serves as the best “in your face for missing it” message.

UK-based Skream & Benga, have played a huge role in the surge and development of dubstep, can be called many things: pioneers, champions, ambassadors, engineers.

Few artists have had more impact in the development of ‘dubstep’ than the duo. Kickstarting with their first studio releases together on Big Apple Records, the two childhood friends and South London based wonder-kids have spent the last decade pioneering a bass heavy sound so unique that it’s broken ground far from its underground London roots and into the minds and hearts of dance music lovers around the world.

‘Escalate’ With Skream & Benga at Sitara Studios, Mumbai.

One of the largest massacres in the history of Mumbai occurred Sunday evening. Before you start panicking and flipping through your local news networks, I’m referring to the Escalate gig at Sitara Studios with Algorhythym, Nucleya and Sound Avtar and headlined by bassmeisters:  Skream and Benga.

I can’t begin to describe the extent of sheer destruction that happened on that fateful day. It makes me feel like a ‘Nam vet recovering from post traumatic stress disorder. The pure, unadulterated overload of bass that ripped my ears apart was much more than I expected.  There were some parts so filthy that I’m sure it would have had members of my local municipal ward organize clean-up drives.

Chained to the powerful grace of bass house, AC Slater brings out his collaboration with Dell Harris – “Go Harder” which was first heard on the Skream & Benga radioshow.

Released under Party Like Us Records, this track is a bone breaker. Built on the high ground of powerful percussions and rubbery synths. A repetitive vocal overlay adds an old school reggae and rap feel to the entire track. We especially love the change in sounds one minute ahead into the track where there are some heavy notes of bassline.

The champion of bass, AC Slater hails from Brooklyn, NY. AC Slater has begun a lengthy career for himself by fusing elements of house music with the dirty basslines of UK garage and drum & bass and sprinkles of old-school rave synths and breaks.

The first track on the EP ‘Push It To The Limit’ has been played on Skream & Benga’s BBC Radio 1 show. ’Perfect’, ‘Catalyst’ and ‘Soundkilla’ are dubstep tracks fused with Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass and Jazz. The EP has gained early support from Zeds Dead, Sub Focus, DJ Craze and more, after you hear the tracks you will understand why SMOG Records signed this talented artist.
