Gitano Cover Art

New Delhi based electronic music pioneer and owner of Wind Horse RecordsHamza is set to release his first full length album titled ‘Gitano’. Hamza has cited the influence of his album works on the travel and life on three different continents i.e. South Asia, Europe, and North America and we can’t help but certify the diversity on this album as the sound sees a strong mix of various cultural and background influences seamlessly merged into one!

Exposed to some of the world’s best house DJ’s in his formative years such as Terry FrancisDave MothersoleDJ Heather, and Danny Teneglia, Hamza found the right sources of inspiration for his present eclectic and synergetic sound style. Combining traditional deep house sounds with aggressive tribal loops or warm fuzzy synths and energetic funky sounds, Hamza has had a penchant for being a wizard on the production table. With his first album ‘Gitano’, we see his threshold pushed to the farthest extending our horizons and visions of having a beautiful melodic integration of various musical traditions.

We start with ‘Sky Song‘, which features some comforting Celtic strings alongside a magical Blues and Soul feel horn straight from New Orleans! Add that dapper bass line and some critically placed guitar stabs at the interception and we land straight into this melodic ride!

As we transit into ‘Ritmo Del Amor‘, we are fully gripped by this journey thus far as warm strings encapsulate our senses before a funky bassline groove rocks us back and forth. A very Latin-influenced sound style meets that familiar NY deep house sound to create a heady intoxicating mix of Cultural flavours intertwined into one!

From there we arrive into the title track ‘Gitano‘, a Danish-esque drum filter welcomes us into some ethereal atmospherics before some tight percussion and bassline grooves restore the deep house quotient back on the track. More and more layers are added including crashing cymbals and some enticing Spanish string work before an African vocal sample lifts our senses. And finally a true house sound terrain is dabbled with those universally gratifying UK bass pecks! This one’s a visionary cocktail of sound styles all forged into a masterfully crafted production just waiting to happen for centuries!

Tech Me To Havana‘ is a smart play on words and a wiser production as those Cuban vocal samples are merged with an incessant driving tech bassline groove. A progressive build draws us towards the dance-floor as a warm tech feel indeed guides the rest of the track.

New York To New Delhi‘ perhaps symbolizes the entire journey that Hamza may have experienced as he guides an otherwise simplistic warm progressive synth as it often meets some pecking stabs, high soaring pads, fuzzy atmospherics, some vocal cheering, flute harmonics – just like the producer’s journey! The track lends an effervescent texture and is sure to put a smile on your face and your hands swaying in the air.

As we enter into overdrive mode on the album, we notice a shifting sound terrain as we progress into a more club-oriented soundscape. With ‘Let The Music Play‘, Hamza combines with the vocal talents of Loopy Juice, as he brings forth more jazz and funk elements once again combined with some African strings and a bassline groove reminiscent of the NY deep house scene.

Do It Right‘ picks up from the energy signature left behind by ‘Let The Music Play‘ as it incorporates the same jazz and funk feel into some inspirational vocal sample, to provide the quintessential deep house groove on the album. Wobbling synths, claps and crash cymbals combine with vocal melodies to create a euphoric driving turn by this point on the album.

Every Time The Bass Goes Down‘ is also a funky affair, but has an interesting play between the distorted synths, organ bass and some unique vocal work. Almost sounding experimental in nature, the vocal samples are chopped up and layered in such a way that it becomes part of the musical composition guiding the progressions and compressions of the track!

We end our journey, albeit with a sense of yearning for more, as Hamza combines with Mr. Bista yet again for the track ‘City Lights’. Once again curating a Jazz & funk feel through the track, we see an organic drum loop infusing some crash, cymbals and hi hats before familiar deep house textures completely redefine the sonic terrain for the track. A loud and ringing trumpet combined with hip-hop vocal cheering brings some more diversity into the track as we end the album on an auditory high with many flavours fresh in our memory.

In what can be termed as a ‘rising age of deep house music’ in India, Hamza’s album ‘Gitano’, may just be one of the finest underground ventures of 2014 as the album gets set to release on 24th February from Wind Horse records, and we have to admit, we’re super excited for it!

Stay tuned for more info as we bring you the latest!
