This cheeky, house-ish, chopped-to-bits vocals, with rerunning vocal loop show that Umek is digressing from his energetic techno style and is now experimenting with chuggier grooves with thicker loops while keeping his tight bassline in check.  In essence  ‘I Need You’ is a perfectly composed tech house/minimal production with vocals that not only compliment the track, but add intensity and imagery to the structure of the track itself.
