Basto – Pull [Preview]

Basto

A Belgian genius that has provided us with tracks like ‘Again and Again’, ‘CloudBreaker’, ‘I Rave You’ and more recently ‘Stormchaser’ has now showcased a very long  preview of ‘Pull’. Basto calls it the “new basto banger”.

This preview cuts straight to the chase. Synths and melodies syncing together- going back and forth, slowly progressing towards a beautiful build-up, only before the gun’s click-clack paves way for a mean drop! We know that Basto is a Tomorrowland favourite, and a tune of this stature would prove to be a big hit at his resident festival, amongst others. The preview is full on energy and the “basto banger” quotient. Hear the sound for yourselves!

Crystal Method at Prime, Boston

Any veteran EDM fan is well aware of who Crystal Method is. The duo that started its journey in Las Vegas, NV has come a long way. From producing tracks that were featured in the trailer for the first sci-fi banger The Matrix to being on the soundtrack for one of the most famous racing games of its time, Need for Speed Underground.

Crystal Method was playing at Prime in Boston on October 26th, which is a club that has been bringing some big artists this year. Some that are yet to come are Hardwell and Swanky Tunes in November which we here at Bangin Beats are really pumped for.

This would be my first Crystal Method show and I sacrificed going to Major Lazer and a Diplo after-party for it and I can tell you this, they did not disappoint. Starting off the set with their ever so famous “Trip like I do”, they slowly transitioned into delivering a monster set jam-packed with some heavy bass tunes and mashing them carefully with selected electro beats that we young EDM fans love raging to.

The first of these recent hits was a track called Fire Inside by Gemini released earlier this year. After which they dropped one of the year’s biggest remixes, Zdarlight by Deniz Koyu w/ fedde le grand which was somehow mixed with a not so well-known track that I hadn’t heard but with the help of the internet’s knowledge was able to find. Released in September by German producer B-Phreak, Watch Dis was an unlikely part of their set that kept a lot of people guessing what could be expected next. The best mix of the night that was delivered to the crowd was a mashup of Nicky Romero and Zedds Human along with Kangaroo by SVD and Julian Jordan. At every moment I thought I knew which part of each track would fit but they completely surprised me with their mixing incorporating mass amounts of effects that just made it seem like the two tracks were just meant to be.

Other parts of the set were mixed in with Shake your Rump by the Beastie Boys, Praise You by Fatboy Slim and some other heavy hitters that I will attach below. The only thing I didn’t understand was the fact that I only remember hearing Name of the game and Trip like I do (which started the set) in the entire night. For someone who grew up on and started appreciating electronic music because of artists like Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Thievery Corporation, I expected to hear a lot of the old school electronic music I went there to see. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy the performance to an extent where I had been dancing for 40 minutes straight without refreshing my drink. The best part of the night was Scott Kirkland (Half of Crystal Method) coming into the crowd and dancing with the fans, letting them try on the Lego helmet and indulging them in pictures and videos.

I think a lot of the people who were there were hoping to relive the past when these guys set the tone for EDM scene where this music started being used in mainstream media i.e. movies and video games. In the end I would say I would do it all over again and it was completely worth it. For all of you EDM fans that have recently developed a taste for the genres that we absolutely love here at The Bangin Beats, I suggest you listen to as much Crystal Method as you can.

Some Crystal Method originals and other tracks they included in this set:

John Dahlback – Panic EP

John Dahlbäck brought out his amazing new EP called, “Panic” today on Chris Lake‘s Rising Music Label and we at Bangin Beats give you a track by track review of the 2 track EP !

The first track on the EP is the title track, “Panic”. A solid track carrying in itself coarse leads and intense beats which play out particularly well. “Panic” is a club banger/dance floor filler for sure. Hit the play button now!

“What’s Up Now” which is the second track on the EP comes with some gritty instrumentals intelligently mixed with an super vocal line to round off an EP that furthers the widespread belief that the swede’s sound has never been confined to one solitary genre and never will be.

Chuckie & Promiseland feat. Amanda Wilson – Breaking up (Bartosz Brenes & Tony Romera Remix)

Remember the solid recent release by Chuckie and Promise Land  called “Breaking Up” which featured Amanda Wilson ? Here comes a even crazier remix from Bartosz Brenes & Tony Romera. A super remix from start to finish! Surely a good way to start you’re weekend. The drop at 2:00 is groovy as hell !

Armin van Buuren feat. Ana Criado – I’ll Listen (Original Mix)

Definitely one of the best music producers on earth, trance king Armin van Buuren has come out with an amazing new release called, “I’ll Listen” featuring vocalist, Ana Criado who also featured on Armin’s track, “Suddenly Summer” a few months back.

Melodious and yet so powerful has been the style of the dutch legend and this track too has chunks of it but still feels immensely fresh as each track of the masters does.

An essential track for any trance music lover for sure and the voice of Ana Criado just completes and compliments the track perfectly. Have a lovely weekend !!

Exclusive Interview with R3HAB!

R3hab just played a spanking DJ set here in New Delhi and ohh was it was huge. Full of dutch house and commercial house chart toppers it was one hell of a set which he played to a full audience at Kitty Su, with a tracklist inculding a huge mashup of “Rolling in the deep” with “Koko” he completely annihalated the club. For me the moment of the night was when he dropped Swedish House Mafia‘s new track “Don’t you worry child” and the boys at Deep Sound Entertainment let off confettii poppers right at the drop. Truly was one hell of a night!

We also caught up with the man to do a small interview with him, do give it a read !!

Hello from Bangin Beats! This is our first exclusive interview!

Q1) Tell us how did it feel like to be playing in India? What did you expect from the crowd here?

R3HAB: Feels Great! First Time in India, Never Expected such a response from the Indian Crowd. Its overwhelming.

Q2) How much do you know about the music scene here? Have you heard of any artists?

R3HAB:  Don’t know much. Heard a few stuff. Music here is diverse. I’ve heard of Punjabi Mc. I actually sort of used a indian scale on my track “Pump The Party” I love music from different countries in the world

Q3) Would you be willing to collaborate with any Indian artists in the future?

R3HAB: If there’s a good opportunity to get in touch with the good producers here, Why Not? Surely a thing for the future.

Q4) Since you’ve come to India, what are the things that you’re looking forward to most? Is Indian food on the agenda?

R3HAB:  Wanted to Travel and see around but couldn’t this time. Being a short trip, completely jet lagged and very less time. Indian Food is Awesome. Its very colorful and has so much taste. The spices that they use here and the curry they make has refreshingly good taste. I ate lamb and the Rice, Mutton Roganjosh with the garlic naan was delicious.

Q5) You’ve been making waves on Wall Recordings. How and when did the leap to the label happen?

R3HAB:  I’ve known Afrojack for a while, we started around the same age and same agency. It helped me out a lot to get signed to his label and get the promotion out.

Q6) What is the vibe surrounding a usual R3hab set like?

R3HAB: My sets are based on what the crowd is responsive to. I like to get the crowd going first and when the mood sets in, go all out with the music. Energy is really important.

Q7) Tell us somethingabout your “chainsaw” style?

R3HAB: Its a real roller coaster ride! Sweet musical breaks into complete madness when it drops!!

Q8) Your most memorable gig/concert?

R3HAB: Most memorable. Well that’s tough. Cuz they’ve all been really nice. But the ones that stand out would be EDC Las Vegas, Pacha New York, WMC, Arkadia, Nikki Beach, Tomorrowland, Kings of Ace and the entire Ibiza summer.

Q9) What is your opinion deadmau5‘s comment that most “DJ’s show up and click a play button at live concerts”?

R3HAB: Ohh! Did he say that. I have no clue about this. Must be, but as a Dj that’s not a good thing to do. Djing is all about spontaneity. You don’t know what kind of people would turn up for your show and how many. But as a Dj your job is to entertain the crowd with your music. People come to watch your dj skills and how well you can do it live.

Q10) Your current 5 favourite tracks?

R3HAB: Top 5 Tracks Would Be Years by Alesso, Swedish House Mafia‘s Don’t you worry child. I like my remix for turn up the love. Steve Aoki‘s Ladi Dadi and Feel the Dada by Dada Life

Q11) Your 5 favourite artists?

R3HAB: Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, Dada Life, Skrillex and Alesso

Q12) Dubstep is a relatively new genre & a lot of producers areincorporating shades of it into their tracks, could we see you incorporate itinto your tracks in the near future?

R3HAB: Dubstep is highup in the states. Got massive following there. I infact have some tracks coming up with dubby influences.

Q13)  Finally a message & a quick tip to the young & budding DJ/Producer’s here in India & all overthe world?

R3HAB: Haha. Just be yourself. Don’t copy others. Do and produce whatever your best in. Relax your minds. You’ll get your own ideas. Thanks You very much for having me. Was a great tour. Both shows were nice n busy. Great job by the organizers Deep Sound Entertainment. And all the best for Bangin Beats!!
