BBC Radio’s Essential Mix’s 20th Anniversary graced by Paul Oakenfold!

BBC Radio's Essential Mix's 20th Anniversary graced by Paul Oakenfold!

All the way back in 1993, legendary household producer Paul Oakenfold was the first artist to record the first ever BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Feeling a little nostalgic, we daresay, Paul tweeted the link to his Soundcloud page, granting everyone listening rights to the foundation of a podcast we’re eternally grateful for today! A historic throwback to the 90′s, a lot of tunes may be unheard of, since most of us probably weren’t around then. Oakenfold’s mixing skills are still some of the finest in the industry, and this essential mix does not disappoint whatsoever. An interesting throwback to house music of the preceding decade, you can view the tracklist and stream below.

Paul Oakenfold & Azealia Banks – Venus (DJ Bl3nd Remix) [Preview]

Paul Oakenfold & Azealia Banks – Venus (DJ Bl3nd Remix)

Azelia Banks is a fabulous singer and she’s proven her point once again collaborating with house veteran Paul Oakenfold to produce a track called Venus. Guess what, hard-hitting house DJ Bl3nd has remixed it! Now DJ Bl3nd has a mamoth presence particularly with his mixes and videos, featuring that infamous mask. Venus is primed for a festival main stage with drops so big you might fall from outer space! Perfect timing with Tomorrowland on, since he’ll be performing at the Tape Stage. Check it out below!

Azealia Banks, Paul Oakenfold & Richard Benyon – “Venus (Ibiza Edition)”

VIBE-Vixen-Azealia-Banks-600x399 (1)

Sometimes you do not need a crazy video, you do not need bare naked or half naked ladies to paint a picture for the music. Sometimes all you need is a powerful voice strong enough to leave an impression the very first time you hear it. Azealia Banks is one of those few artists who crosses that benchmark.

On 15th July, Azealia Banks and Paul Oakenfold and Richard Benyon have come together to release Venus (Ibiza Edition) a track that will be in vogue for generations to come. Compared to her more recent singles, the Pharrell-assisted “ATM JAM” and Lil Internet-produced “Yung Rapunxel,” Azealia’s has taken a step back and maintained a more mellow tone here as she swaps her soothing serenade for bouncy lyrics. This very progressive/big room production done by the legendary Paul Oakenfold and Richard Benyon has melted easily into the pot of mainstream dance music. “Venus” is straight 130 BPM progressive house-festival fodder, filled with glittering piano lines, a repetitive low-end synth and huge builds and breakdowns. It would make sense for this track to be packed as a proper single or part of Paul Oakenfold’s Pop Killer, and not Azealia’s highly-anticipated debut album.

Check out the biggie track here and get with it!

Paul Oakenfold – Turn It On (Original Mix)

Paul Oakenfold – Turn It On (Original Mix) [Preview]

Creator of some of the most legendary trance anthems, Paul Oakenfold is definitely one of the biggest names in the dance music industry. This super talented, dynamic and multi-faced legend needs no introduction and has left his impression everywhere, be it trance or its different offshoots in the past decade.

After giving us a string of big vocal releases this year, he now shifts the gear towards the underground, deep and melodic style, moving to a production, intense in nature.

Turn It On’ is rock-solid, tremendously stiff and ready to rule the underground dance floors this season. With bouncy beats, the bassline is very uplifting with acid brushes and angelic female vocal chops in background that will definitely give you an adrenaline rush. The bassline is driving and in your face which makes it a perfect track to play in an uplifting set like a ‘Who’s Afraid of 138?’ set.

The atmospheric breakdown is pretty short as it is just used to initiate with huge bang when the beat drops. With such delirious vibes, it’s definite to rule the underground as well as other dance floors this year.

With constant support from the legend towards the underground trance music, we are sure that the underground scene will change in many territories.

To the hardcore and pure Fluoro fans, Turn It On has released on Perfecto Fluoro and you can grab it here on Beatport.

Buckle yourself in, turn it on and turn it up!!

Simon Patterson – Full On Fluoro, Vol.1

Simon Patterson - Full On Fluoro, Vol.1

With enormous thirteen #1s on Beatport and recently taking the figure to 14 with his latest single ‘Brush Strokes’, Simon Patterson’s reputation for constancy is truly remarkable. And surprisingly three of those number ones having occurred this year, the wave of popularity he is at present surfing seem to show no signs of collapse.

Subsequent to his recent dual signing to two of Armada’s flagship trance labels – Perfecto Fluoro and Armind,  Simon has also showcased his far-fetched adaptability as a producer. With production styles ranging from the huge hit with vocalist Lucy Pullin “The One” through to his perverse psychedelic productions on Perfecto Fluoro (including his remix of Neelix “Leave Me Alone” and his recent teamwork with Spanish breaks expert Blazer – “Contraband”).

Now Simon turns his mind to his second compilation album of the year. Following on from London Clubbing institution The Gallery’s Eighteenth Birthday album, which Simon contributed a mix for, he now takes things dark, dirty and twisted for Paul Oakenfold’s underground trance label Perfecto Fluoro.

Full on Fluoro 001 is the first in a new series of albums that will focus on supporting the underground side of trance, as well as Breaks and Progressive Psy and will feature Fluoro regulars, allowing them to flex their DJ muscles in a 2 hour, non-stop mix.
