Well, it’s pretty safe to assume that none of us saw this coming. The annual DJ Awards in Ibiza, celebrating its 20th anniversary, recognizes excellence in the dance music community among various genres, and the 2017 edition was no less.
With categories spanning for best DJs in Bass, Big Room, Trance, Techno, House and many others, the awards have some of the biggest names in the dance music spectrum nominated across the various categories. This year’s International DJ category saw the likes of Carl Cox, Armin van Buuren, Eric Prydz, deadmau5, Hardwell, Sven Vath, Solomun, Martin Garrix, David Guetta and many others being nominated for the award, with many having tipped Cox to take home the trophy. However, when Hardwell was announced as the winner, the news did not go down well with the Ibiza faithful, and the Dutch DJ/producer was booed when he went on stage to collect the award.
However, Cox won the award for Best Techno DJ, while Armin van Buuren was adjudged the Best Trance DJ. Hardwell also won the Best Bigroom House DJ, with Luciano and Clapton winning the Tech House and House categories respectively.
