What a month it has been for music! While July saw some stunning releases from the likes of Hardwell, KSHMR, Cirez D and many more, August has been a humongous month for music fans around the world! With the likes of Skrillex, Arjun Vagale, Martin Garrix and Avicii who put on a spectacular show, we were also treated to some real gems from Indian collective Lowlit.

As the month comes to an end, join us as we take a look at the Top 10 Releases of August 2017.

 

10. Giraffage – SlowlyGiraffage Slowly

August not only witnessed San Francisco-based producer Giraffage announce his debut album, but also drop the lead single off the highly awaited LP! Titled ‘Slowly‘, the smooth, new effort features guest vocals from NYC-based producer Matosic. Known for his own individual and eccentric style, the gorgeous track makes sure to stay true to Giraffage’s signature sound. Led by airy, glittering melodies which effectively create a funky, 90s pop-inspired soundscape, funky vocal chops add towards the flair as a brilliant breakdown takes over soon after.

 

9. deadmau5 x Shotty Horroh – Legendarydeadmau5 Legendary

Unarguably one of electronic music’s biggest icons, deadmau5 decided to take on hip-hop late last year when he joined forces with Manchester-based rapper Shotty Horroh for ‘Okay‘ before dropping ‘Legendary‘. A creative masterstroke which combines signature hip-hop styles with mau5’s own creative genius for a memorable offering, the highly innovate track finally received an official release this month via mau5trap.

 

8. Fehrplay – AriaFehrplay Aria

Norwegian act Fehrplay returned to Anjunabeats yet again this month a brand new production on the record imprints’ latest Anjunabeats Worldwide compilation. Titled ‘Aria‘, the track is an out and out progressive techno production, with scintillating synths and a groovy bassline, coupled with underlying layers which give it a whole new flavor.

 

7. FILM – Everyone Needs ClosureFILM Everyone Needs Closure

Sanil Sudan aka FILM‘s latest track ‘Everyone Needs Closure‘ blew minds after it was released as part of Indian collective Lowlit’s Better Late Volume. 2 compilation this month. With its intriguing melodies and spellbinding rhythms which hold the track together, its awe-worthy synths build the atmosphere as the masterpiece steadily unfolds throughout its seven-minute proceedings. A world-class percussive soundscape which adds to its aura, it would be foolish not to recognise it as one of the finest Indian releases of 2017.

 

6. Marshmello feat. Khalid – SilenceMarshmello Silence

Marshmello delivered ‘Silence‘ with Khalid as a solid showcase for his penchant for crafting radio friendly pieces. Staying true to his melodic roots, it surely sounded like one of his more refined works till date! Led by the ‘Location‘ hitmaker’s gorgeous vocals, the track ebbs and flows beautifully before a powerful, future bass inspired break hits listeners, which unfortunately doesn’t match up to the singer’s high quality work. Nonetheless, a notable effort from the masked producer that has already garnered millions of plays, there is indeed no stopping Marshmello.

 

5. Skrillex & Vindata & NSTASIA – FavorSkrillex Favor

Skrillex season is officially upon us. Having already released  ‘Would You Ever’ with Poo Bear and ‘Saint Laurent’ with DJ Sliink and Wale in the recent past, Sonny Moore returned to action earlier this month with ‘Favor‘ alongside Vindata and NSTASIA. A colourful track which is ought to brighten up your week by all means, the gorgeous new piece kicks off with the female singer’s infectious vocals before flute sounds steadily begin to creep in. A signature, bounce-filled break which graces listeners’ ears, his latest joint effort has already become a fan favourite.

 

4. Steve Angello feat. Paul Meany – Breaking KindSteve Angello Breaking Kind

Steve Angello served up an absolute classic with ‘Breaking Kind‘ this August. Released as part of his Genesis EP which serves as the first act of his forthcoming album, the Swedish veteran’s latest creation is a stunning display of his new vision which succeeds to keep listeners engrossed throughout its proceedings. Featuring guest vocals from Paul Meany, the supreme collaboration in the making is led by a gorgeous melody upfront. The Mutemath frontman does justice to Angello’s world class production effort who keeps things simple, yet incredibly complex in his own ways.

 

3. Martin Garrix – PizzaMartin Garrix Pizza

Earlier this month, Martin Garrix confirmed the release of a gorgeous unreleased track which was debuted during his landmark Tomorrowland performance back in July! The tasty new gem titled ‘Pizza‘ which was finally unveiled also marked Martin’s highly awaited return to his progressive house roots. Led by a mellifluous melody which kicks off the proceedings, the track quickly picks up pace before uplifting synths join in. As the tension continues to build, a signature anthem-like breakdown takes over which is ought to mesmerize listeners around the world.

 

2. Arjun Vagale – LiquidArjun Vagale Liquid

Putting an end to the wait earlier this month, Indian techno kingpin Arjun Vagale announced his massive debut on Drumcode Records with ‘Liquid‘. Broody, pounding basslines coupled with dark synths and simmering hi hats give the track a unique flavor, sitting perfectly with the esoteric Drumcode sound that has come to be appreciated by Techno enthusiasts across the world. Released as part of the 6th installment of the label’s internationally celebrated A-Sides series, it is truly a moment to behold for the man himself!

 

1. Avicii feat. Rita Ora – Lonely TogetherAvicii Lonely Together

Avicii‘s highly anticipated return was marked this month with the release of his Avīci EP. A gorgeous six-track effort which showcased the Swedish heavyweight’s musical prowess, ‘Lonely Together‘ with Rita Ora certainly stood out as one of the most impressive cuts from the entire EP. A delightful piece featuring the producer’s signature upbeat, progressive approach alongside the British singer’s lovely vocals, the track has already become a true favourite around the globe.
