SHFT – Fractal (Original Mix)

Driving forward, that’s bubbling under the surface of a substantial commercial electronic music scene in the country, has been Madhav Shorey aka Kohra’s label Qilla Records. With some of the recent releases receiving critical acclaim from well known producers in the worldwide spectrum of underground music, it’s safe to say that the label not only is at the verge of exploding in the home turf but in international scene as well. Shimmering in the already glorious catalogue is the newest release on the label which comes from New Delhi based Vipul Angirish aka SHFT who also plays a significant role as the label’s A&R.

The three tracker “Fractal” EP is a gem of package as a whole, while we’ve to say the eccentric title production is something that’s never heard of before. The track builds up with a drum pattern accompanied by precisely chopped out sinister samples that clearly indicate you are about to enter into a splendid rolling techno voyage. While longer than usual is a journey of few ups and downs towards the main breakdown of a contagious arp sequence, that in fact provides for a unique hypnotic sound of ‘Fractal’. The climax breaks-out into a larger than life musical monster making it certainly apt for middle part of a midnight techno set. SHFT’s ‘Fractal’ is a testimony that the Indian underground music is on the rise and wouldn’t go unnoticed anymore. The track has landed on Qilla Records alongside ‘Float’ and ‘Quanta’ and you can get it now off Beatport.
