Soundgarden And Audioslave Vocalist Chris Cornell Has Passed Away

In a shocking turn of events that has left the rock community stunned, Chris Cornell, the rock legend and vocalist of Soundgarden, has passed away at the age of 52.

In a statement from his representative Brian Bumbery, Cornell passed away in Detroit on Wednesday night, hours after playing with Soundgarden at Detroit’s Fox Theatre. Calling the death “sudden and unexpected”, the statement said the family would be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause and asked for privacy.

Cornell was one of the pioneers of the grunge movement in the nineties with Soundgarden, as well as having fronted the supergroup Audioslave with former Rage Against The Machine‘s members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk in 2001. Cornell had been working with Soundgarden on the band’s new studio album since last year, and it remains to be seen how Chris Cornell’s death will affect the rest of the material.
