Interview With Shapov!

Having been in the dance music scene for more than a decade now (initially with Hard Rock Sofa), Shapov is without a doubt one of the most promising acts in the electronic music today. With continuous support from Axwell, the Russian DJ and producer has had a number of releases on Axtone, as well as remixes for the likes of Afrojack, Camelphat and more.

We caught with the ‘Belong‘ co-producer to discuss his upcoming music, his dream collaborations and much more. Read on!

TBB: How did ‘Belong’ with Axwell come to life?

Shapov: Ax originally sent me the vocal and I was like, “WOW this sick!”. We worked on it together back & forth between our studios. I finally finished it this year whilst I was at an Axtone writing camp!

TBB: After having worked for so many years under your collaborative project, Hard Rock Sofa, how does it feel to achieve a sensational amount of success with Shapov in such a short span?

Shapov: Really happy with how it’s gone so far! Hard Rock Sofa was, and is, still an important part of my life and it was a huge decision for me to go alone but it’s given me the freedom to be myself in the studio.

TBB: You’ve become a hot favourite in the dance music circuit with several of your festival-ready anthems. Is there a specific plan in mind while producing a new track?

Shapov: My plan is always to make the sickest possible track! Gotta be next level!

TBB: You’ve worked closely with Axwell and the Axtone crew for a while now. What has the entire experience been like?

Shapov: Axwell is the professor so working with him is always amazing; he’s always got the best ideas. I’ve been working with the Axtone guys for a looooong time now and they really understand and share in my vision for the future – love working with them.

TBB: Given the chance to collaborate with any one artist that you haven’t worked with before, who would you like to collaborate with?

Shapov: I would love to collaborate with Chris Martin!

TBB: Which artists have had a big influence on your growth, and are currently inspiring you as a producer and DJ?

Shapov: Definitely the Prodigy –  you can hear they’ve inspired many of my tracks over the years.

TBB: If you had to choose one memorable moment in your career, what would it be, and why?

Shapov: Hearing my music in Fast & Furious was amazing to experience, as it’s not something I’d have ever thought would happen – playing my 1st Tomorrowland was also of course incredible!

TBB: Any new music from you in the near future? Are you looking to work on more EPs or an album at some point of time in your career?

Shapov: Yes, loads! I’m currently working on an EP that will be released this side of the end of year that will include a number of songs fans may have heard in my recent sets.

TBB: What have you heard about the Indian dance music scene so far? Any plans to tour the sub-continent in the near future?

Shapov: I’ve played there before and I loved it! No concrete plans right now but I’m really keen to play some of the festivals there – they look amazing!

TBB: Your Top 3 Bangin Tracks of the moment?

Shapov:
  1. Axwell & Shapov – Belong
  2. Matisse & Sadko – Ninjas
  3. Shapov Vs. Meg & Nerak – Breathing Deeper
