London’s iconic club fabric had been closed a while back following the deaths of two 18 year olds at the facility. After the announcement, on August 24, a petition was put up with an initial goal of 1000 signatures, to #savefabric.
While that goal was met within a matter of hours, the petition has now officially crossed 84,000 signatures. The goal was first upped to 75,000 signatures and now 1,50,000, and the petition will be presented at the Islington Council’s meeting on the 6th of September, which will take a review of the nightclub’s license.
Lauding the efforts of its patrons, the club, in a blog post, thanked everyone for supporting the campaign:
It’s actually quite hard to express just how touched we are that 50,000 people have already put their name to the campaign to support nightlife and #savefabric. It shows us just how big our family has become over the years.
The safety of all our customers has always been at the core of what we do, so right now we’re working with the relevant authorities and looking at everything we can to make sure that we can continue to operate after the 6th September.
