Ever since Sunburn and Oji announced Mad Decent Block Party’s debut in India, the tour has generated quite the buzz all over the country. With the likes of Major Lazer, Gorgon City, Big Gigantic, Giraffage, Nucleya amongst others on the lineup, Mad Decent Block Party will ensure that you have the time of your life. In a bid to get you more familiar with the artists on the lineup, we give you an insight into Giraffage and Big Gigantic‘s music over the years.

Giraffage

For the uninitiated: Giraffage is the full-time project of San Francisco native Charlie Yin, and his music is heavily loaded with R&B influences.

Giraffage is one of the most unique additions to the MDBP India lineup because his sounds are anything but mainstream. The American producer is bringing the future (and not future house, mind you!) genre to a much larger audience, in a country where the best future producers are still relegated to the indie scene.

The talented producer has collaborated with numerous artists in the past, most notably Porter Robinson, for whom he did an official remix of ‘Lionhearted’. He was also the main support for Porter’s massive Worlds tour.

Charlie’s big break, however, has got to be his flip for Janet Jackson‘s ‘Someone To Call My Lover‘. Already having notched over 1.4 million plays on SoundCloud, this twist to a classic starts off with highly reverberated vocals before increasing in tempo and transporting you into a world of tranquility.

He also had a brief stint as a chiptune producer, adopting the moniker Robot Science. As Giraffage, he has produced two albums and a barrage of remixes and originals.

Big Gigantic

How often do you hear an authentic saxophone as an element in electronic music? That’s right. Not much. This is where this duo hailing from Colorado differentiates itself from the rest of the pack.

Comprising of saxophonist/producer Dominic Lalli and drummer Jeremy Salken, Big Gigantic is one of the most energetic live electronica acts you’ll ever listen to. Coachella, Lollapalooza, Paradiso; you name a festival and they’ve been there. Their one-off sound has taken them places and garnered respect from all corners of the industry.

While Dominic has a Masters degree from the Manhattan School Of Music, Jeremy has toured extensively in the past, with a band named Victor Barnes Bluegrass Band

Some of the acts Big Gigantic has collaborated with are Gramatik, GRiZ and Snails, having released a track on OWSLA with the latter.

Big Gigantic believe in a true live experience, concentrating on developing every aspect of their shows so that people get to witness an aural and a visual treat.

Arguably their most popular single, ‘Get On Up’ is a funk blaster, complete with a saxophone solo, ridiculously distorted bass synths and a swinging beat.
