Stepping out of a comfort zone can go two ways. Either you branch out and succeed, or you fail and look into retrospect. With his first ever release on Suara, Lane 8 has dared to venture out of the Anjunadeep stronghold, and the results have been more than splendid.

It won’t make sense comparing these three belters to tracks on his debut album Rise, or singles like Every Night, and this becomes extremely evident when you first listen to Under My Skin. Heavily detuned piano chords, haunting vocals and almost-techno vibes aren’t phrases you’d associate with Lane 8, but the track sounds absolutely marvelous.

Arguably the best track on the EP, Frau combines groovy tones with light, ongoing arps and the occasional pads and risers. The only song that bears some resemblance to his original style is the title track Midnight, which has a grand piano sound dominating the track, and a phased arp accompanying it.

Overall, the EP shows how willing Lane 8 is to venture on roads not travelled on before, and we only wish for more releases like this from this immensely talented producer! Listen to the previews on SoundCloud below:
