Interview With Sultan + Shepard

Sultan + Shepard

Sultan + Shepard have been in the lime light for quite a while now with their infectious productions, and high energy sets. They’ve always belted out killer hits including their memorable releases with Nadia Ali, and their remix of Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out Of Heaven” to most recently being featured on Dillon Francis’ new album.

The Bangin Beats caught up with them at Vh1 Supersonic and had a little tête-à-tête. Here’s what we spoke about:

TBB: You guys have been to India a couple times now, Do you notice any drastic change in the kind of vibe or the kind of energy, or any change in the taste of music that the Indian audience has?

Ned: It seems to be more mainstream, but the energy is still there, and people still love our music. So that’s consistent!

TBB: Sultan, you’ve graduated in Mechanical Engineering, so what do you think about the transition. You’re a DJ and producer now, which is totally different from Mechanical Engineering. Do you ever regret letting that part of your life go?

Sultan: Never! I’m doing what I love and that’s always been my dream to be an artist and I Love it!

TBB: That’s great to hear! Also on a side note, do you ever plan to cut those sick dreads off? because you’ve been growing it for a while!

Sultan: *Laughs* We’ll find out at the same time.

TBB: You guys have been very close to Nadia Ali and have featured her on a lot of your tracks. We haven’t heard that kind of sound from you guys lately. Do you guys plan on putting that kind of sound out anymore?

Ned: We have a new song with her coming out really soon. You’ve got to hear what it sounds like

TBB: We’d love to hear what it would sound like. We loved her all the way back when she was with Iio. Moving on, do you guys have any advice for upcoming producers? Any Do’s and Don’ts that they should follow?

Ned: Find your own sound.

Sultan: Don’t copy. Cause if you’ve realised in the past three years, everybody copied everybody, and what happened? the uniqueness of music has all gone now.

TBB: Do you guys have a message for your Indian fans?

Sultan: We love you guys, you’re the best. There’s some much encouragement and enthusiasm. We really appreciate it every time we come here.

TBB: Do you guys plan on remixing any Bollywood music or sample any of that in any of your future productions?

Sultan: We have no plans, but we’re open to it. He (Ned) has an obsession with doing a Bollywood video for one of our songs.

Ned: You might see it one day!
