A lot of music purists and elitists look down upon dance music, going as far as labeling it as “not real music” or labeling the artists as “not real musicians”, and it puts the mainstream artists considerably in the line of fire. One artist who has faced similar insinuations is Skrillex. Being one of the biggest artists in the dance music community today, Skrillex has often been rebuked by the so called “elitists”.
A YouTube user, BloodyFanGirl, has put together a video showcasing Skrillex’s talent as a musician, with footage from the producer playing the guitar, the piano, singing and even playing the kaazoo.
I made a video you can send to people who say “Skrillex isn’t a musician”, in the hopes of creating a new beautiful world where music puritans finally shut up about some artists not being “real musicians” or some genres not being “real music”. We’re getting real tired of your fundamentalist bullshit!
The video shows Sonny playing the guitar at several occasions, including his performance with String Cheese Incident at Electric Forest last year, where he jams to The Doors’ ‘Break On Through (To The Other Side)’ to a guest appearance during Above & Beyond‘s Acoustic show in 2013 for ‘Black Room Boy‘, as well as playing the piano for a stunning rendition of Titanic’s theme song, and his days as a vocalist for From First To Last, belting out vocals quite effortlessly.
