Tchami – After Life [EP]

Tchami - The After Life [EP]

To start off I would just say, “The force is strong with this one.” French DJ/producer Tchami has been on a complete tear ever since he grabbed the spotlight. With an incredible work ethic and his signature holy sound, the priest in disguise has blessed us this Christmas with his highly anticipated After Life EP. Consisting of 5 tracks, the EP is a testament to the Frenchman’s skills and clearly showcases his diversity as an esteemed artist. No doubt this is Tchami but this shows much more character with a variety of bass lines and beautiful piano melodies and some incredible vocals on some of them.

The EP kicks off with the earlier released title track featuring Stacy Barthe which infuses echoing vocals and distorted instrumentals into the sick bassline creating what has become of the “future house” pioneer’s legacy. Next up is “Freakin” featuring up and coming producer Dombresky who has received much support from his French compatriots DJ Snake, Point Point and more. The track is melodic and uplifting in a very satisfying sense with echoing vocals in the background. With a pleasant chord progression, this track is much more than its drop and is essentially very wholesome if words were to explain it. The third feature is his collaborative effort with Nightbass label boss AC Slater titled “Missing You” featuring vocals by Kaleem Taylor. The hip-hop inspired intro with soulful vocals gives way to a heavy future house drop filled with growls and groovy synths. The next track is a pure gem titled “Superlativ” courtesy of some incredible production skills. With a groovy and distorted bassline with the future house effort on point, this gets filthier and much more aggressive as the track progresses and overall making it a lethal dance floor weapon. The EP concludes with his take on the track titled “Alone” producer by Illangelo (long time collaborator of The Weeknd) and vocals by Chuck Ellis. This track shows a much more emotional side to the enigmatic Frenchman. A slow record indeed, the song progresses with a beautiful piano jam and sinful vocals ultimately giving way to a tender future house hook in sync with the vocals. It certainly is one of his most stunning remixes out of the lot. Wrapping it up, this is a fantastic EP by Tchami which was awaited by his fans for a long long time.
