After building the extreme hype for months, Dillon Francis has finally released his moombahton EP, “This Mixtape Is Fire.” Although Dillon has been playing all the tracks during his sets throughout the year, with this release, we can finally get our hands on the newest Dillon Francis music. Dillon has taken a dive into many genres but with this EP, he goes to his roots and gives a refreshing and modernising touch to a very often neglected genre, moombahton. As the follow-up to the debut full-length album, Money Sucks, Friends Rule,  “This Mixtape Is Fire” is in fact fire with 6 new tracks; featuring the collaborations with Bro Safari, Calvin Harris, KygoSkrillex, Chromeo and James Herseyand a remix by Party Favor.

Dillon Francis – Bruk Bruk (I Need Your Lovin)

Dillon’s native style with bouncy melodies and terrorising tribal percussions is what you will hear in every track in a different form. As the first track on the EP, we have “Bruk Bruk (I Need Your Lovin). Starting with the uplifting pads, modulated vocals make the way to the deadly synths through the tribal snares as if the atmosphere has caught on fire!

Dillon Francis & Calvin Harris – What’s Your Name

Since the last year, Dillon Francis fans have been waiting for the Calvin Harris collaboration. Dillon referred to the track as “the track I opened EDC with” and ironically, people were asking the name of “What’s Your Name.” Starting from progressing chords and pitch changing vocal samples, the arpeggiated synths build up to warped synth hooks and a bouncy bassline. Unexpectedly, we do not feel any audible influence of Calvin Harris on the track, but what can we say? Dillon has his own mysterious ways.

Dillon Francis & Skrillex – Burn Up The Dance

In a mixtape loaded with big names, Dillon could not leave the long-time friend and a fellow superstar, Skrillex. The rumours of the collaboration between these two giant have been running for what feels like years now. With ‘Burn Up The Dance‘, you get exactly what you expected. The track is absolute moombahton fire! With the dance-floor-inspired drum beats and Skrillex’s signature style vocal sample, the track creates an excellent bouncy and twerking atmosphere. Additionally, the sirens buzzing from time to time, ‘Burn Up The Dance‘ is set to convert the dance floors into sweat-ponds.

Dillon Francis & Bro Safari – Pull It

Pull It‘ has been hyped considerably less than Skrillex and Kygo collaborations. Created with the classic moombahton frame in mind, Dillon and Bro Safari have delivered an excellent mixture with the influences of sharp electro house and reggaeton. With uplifting and repetitive synths and vocal samples, the track sets on to probably the meanest drop of the mixtape.

Dillon Francis & Kygo – Coming Over (Feat. James Hersey)

Dillon drops a short break from the high-octane action with ‘Coming Over‘. The influence of Kygo is quite audible with subtle delays over plucky,beach-ready synths. Although the track is a bit off the track than former Moombah tracks on the EP, the tune is short and catchy and with the vocals by James Hersey, the track provides a few quick breath-catching moments.

Dillon Francis – Lies (Feat. Chromeo)

After ‘Coming Over’, Dillon Francis does it again. Seems like a monotonous structure in all of his tracks does not interest Dillon. After the Kygo collaboration, Dillon goes on with the slowing down and presents us with spacious and chilly “Lies”. Enthralling piano chords and guitar solos with Chromeo vocalist Dave Macklovitch’s voice are making ‘Lies‘ a perfect outro to the EP.

Dillon Francis – I Can’t Take It (Party Favor Remix)

As a bonus track with the EP, Dillon includes the Mad Decent up and comer Party Favor, with the only remix of the collection. Party Favor’s remix of ‘I Can’t Take It‘ begins with a recording of Dillon’s German alter-ego DJ Hanzel sobbing over a party with trap music instead of Deep house. As he continues complaining about partygoers twerking, Party Favor’s twerk and bouncy remix drops.

To sum it up, “This Mixtape Is Fire” EP is more than just fire with diverse styles and some impressive blends. This is Dillion Francis returning to his roots and this is exactly what moombahton needed. This might be the exact amount of heat which needed for the cold status of the genre to catch fire. The EP starts catching on fire from the start, slowly reaching the peak in the middle and slowly cooling down to a perfect amount for the bouncy remix at the end of the collection. “This Mixtape Is Fire” EP is out now on Columbia Records and you can grab it on iTunes from here.
