DIPLO
Diplo’s
‘mad’ crew, Major Lazer has been making the crowd rave to their reggae influenced party music in America since 2009. Little does the world know that in Jamaica, where it all began, the crowd views this trio in an altogether different light. With this team going to Kingston, it was hard for Rolling Stone to miss out the opportunity of heading for the party with them and capturing the Major Lazer wave that dominates Jamaica.

Thanks to his upbringing in South Florida neighbourhood, Diplo was exposed to dubstep and dance hall sounds that dominated the Jamaican music scene that time as well. Who knew that it was only a matter of time that he would not just groove to this music but also master in its production in times to come. From having been bailed on by the crowd during Major Lazer’s first ever performance in Jamaica to experimenting with singer, M.I.A. to watching ‘Pon De Floor’ top the music charts, Walshy Fire, Jillionaire and Diplo have probably seen it all.

In ‘Major Lazer Take Kingston’, this team cannot help admiring the recording legend, King Jammy who is best recognised for infusing electronic element in the otherwise traditional dubstep. Keeping aside the musical inspiration drawn from this megastar, stacks of record sleeves in King Jammy’s recording studio have been resourceful for the funky artwork that accompanies all of Major Lazer’s productions.

With music that screams of originality and freshness, Major Lazer has made the world acknowledge its presence and is highly thankful to Jamaica for it. Twisting the nightmare that their first ever performance was into a reality of EDM world dominance,  shows all that they have conquered in this mini documentary. Make sure you watch this trio rise to fame, below!
