In an era of electronic music production thronged by extravagant PR, overtly accessible DJs and festival centered productions, a few artists stand out as those curveball producers who define everything sacrosanct about the Electronica movement. 22 year old Pierce Fulton stands at the precipice of cutting edge music producers, who through his sheer hard work and exhaustive talents have proven to mainstream as well as niche audiences – that electronic music is as diverse as any of its predecessing genres. Now at the helm of his stupendously accelerated career, the young DJ-Producer based from Vermont has etched his name on the trophy of emerging talent to watch out for. For the month of March 2015, we focus our attention on this creative genius as we present Pierce Fulton as our Artist of the Month.

Fulton has achieved his cutting-edge perfection through tireless years of experimenting with different instruments. He learnt to play the guitar as early as when he was 6 and the piano a few years later. His earliest influences including anything from Classic Rock, Reggae, Blues, Metal before he eventually stumbled upon the wondrous sound style of Electronica. By 2009, he was sitting on a Midi keyboard and structuring melodies and grooves on sound production application Reason. An intimate part of his production style is the fusing of various elements and styles outside general Electronica where Fulton shows his undisputed expertise. Pierce has always had this fascination for taking a concept from one instrument or genre and applying it to something new, an activity that would later define the core of his music.

Another critical part of Fulton‘s tutelage was undoubtedly his learning at Vermont’s Music Department. Run by a husband-wife, the music departments senior year involved back to back music theory and electronic music production classes and another course in music history.
Equipped with the fundamentals of production programs, basic synthesis/sound design, and sampling in addition to studying the history of iconic electronic music from the likes of Kraftwerk, Aphex Twin, Frankie Knuckles, and more. Despite not being well experienced with the steadily growing club culture, Fulton was catching up in his own unique way – via the studio!

He started his career as a producer by sharing his work on blogs and websites, after which he was offered the remix duties on newcomers Jesper Cederlind and David Maouad. But his first real breakthrough came with his critically acclaimed 3 track EP ‘Pardon My French‘. The EP consisted of unconventional sounds that were sampled into production, quite sublimely! With an impressive addition to his portfolio with ‘Where We Were’, ‘Runaway’, ‘Old Man & The Sea’. But he became a household name due to his latest single ‘Kuaga‘ that has seen a euphoric response due to its dualitistic style of fusing cross genres with elements designed for the dancefloor. The track has already had official remixes for artists ranging from The Killers to Above & Beyond. Fulton’s romance with diversity doesn’t stop there as his down tempo productions deserve equal praise and acclaim. ‘10/6 (That Should Do It)‘, ‘West Egg‘, ‘As You Were‘, his remix for Mutemath and recent live version of ‘Kuaga‘ – all show this young stalwarts penchant for sonic adventure.
