Know Your Artist: Botnek

We’ve all grown up hearing, two is better than one and the formation of Botnek is just another example of how apt that statement is. Coming from a small town in Canada, it wasn’t hard for Erik Muise and Gordon Huntley to find each other. Having met at a small party, it didn’t take long for them to discover their common interest in dance music and their aptitude for DJ-ing. Their passion took a step higher when Botnek won a contest for Steve Aokis label, Dim Mak Records in 2009 for their remix of Felix Cartal’s, ‘Skeleton’. Their entrance into the electro music scene was finally official with this release.

It wasnt much later when the duo released their first ever EP, Plonk via Discobelle Records in the month of May in 2011. With a hard bass, mind blowing synths and inclusion of tribal voices, this EP transported you right to the jungles. Plonk EP exemplified Botneks skills and their ability to bring fresh sounds to the electro genre. It immediately brought them back to the limelight. In the process of remixing tracks here and there, this duo dropped their second EP, Sriracha & Beer through Dim Mak Records in November, 2012. This minimix beautifully combines six tracks into four and a half minutes of absolutely badass beats. In 2013, Botnek released their follow up singles, Through The Night and I Know via their foster parent, Dim Mak Records thereby proving that they were in the EDM scene to stay!

Their productions, individually or in collaborations have seen them develop a sound of their own, which is easily distinguishable  and makes them stand out from the rest of the producers.Their single Grindhouse, complete with a massive bassline, gritty synth hooks and screaming vocal samples, received support from the likes of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Steve Aoki, Laidback Luke amongst others. Their collaboration with 3LAU, titled Vikings brought the best of both the producers sound that saw support from some of the biggest names in the scene today, including Jack U, Tiesto,  Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Diplo,  Sander van Doorn, Skrillex, Laidback Luke, Hardwell amongst others.

Having been supported and included in the sets of Avicii, Hardwell, Tiesto, David Guetta, Afrojack, Porter Robinson, Krewella and Zedd, Botnek have established a lot in a short period of time. Botneks take on Animals by Martin Garrix  was so impressive that Garrix himself played only their version instead of his in his sets as a result of which the remake of Animals was released officially via Spinnin Records. In 2014, TomorrowWorld released Botneks Artist of Tomorrow mix where the duo attracted everyones attention with their thumping energy and maddening electro house sounds until they finally took the stage at TomorrowWorld and made the audience go insanely wild to their beats. Botneks reinvention of Chainsmokers worldwide famous track, Selfie acquired the #1 position in the Beatport charts for two whole weeks. Additionally, remixes for the likes of  Deadmau5, Style of Eye, Mat Zo & Porter Robinson, Steve Aoki amongst others has seen them receive massive support from countless DJs, and now this team is set for some prime time.

Bringing in fresh sounds and curbing our hunger for interesting music, Botnek has all it takes to bring the required transformation to EDM and more than that Indian audience finally has a chance to catch them live during their debut tour hosted by K!nk, Sl!cks sister brand and NEOS Entertainment.
