Burning Man is going commercial. The festival, which was once known for its free spirit is now, in the worlds of Wired.com, ‘cultural fodder for The Simpsons and Taco Bell commercials.‘
With the 40,000 tickets for the festival selling out in an hour, there are little options for people looking to buy the tickets through other alternatives, mostly through scalpers who ask for exorbitant prices for the tickets. But the scalpers this years have taken the game to a whole new level.
StubHub, a popular online portal for buying and selling tickets in the United States, has two tickets being sold for $1 million each. Yeah, that’s right. With the 4o,ooo tickets sold out within an hour of the official sale on the Burning Man website, StubHub had the most available tickets, with the prices starting from $1000 and even going on $100,000, some of them which have been sold. However, none of them come close to the bewildering price of $1 million for general admission tickets!
Now we don’t know if these tickets will be sold or not, but it definitely will be a topic of discussion for a long time to come.
