In a move that will certainly make micro-blogging website sound a whole lot better (pun intended), sound sharing giants SoundCloud and iTunes have confirmed a partnership that allows users to play music while navigating their tweets. What is known as the Twitter Audio Card, it allows users to dock a music player on their browser, while the navigate through their tweets and over other handles as well – similar to the one on SoundCloud’s official page. David Guetta, Deadmau5, Alt-J and Coldplay are among the musicians already taking advantage of the feature with Guetta tweeting a link to the Robin Schulz remix for his track ‘Dangerous‘. Twitter product manager explained how it works through a blog post just after the announcement was made.
With a single tap, the Twitter Audio Card lets you discover and listen to audio directly in your timeline on both iOS and Android devices. Throughout your listening experience, you can dock the Audio Card and keep listening as you continue to browse inside the Twitter app. We’re just beginning to test the Audio Card and plan to make it available to more partners and creators in the future so that many more musical artists and creators will be able to share exclusive, in-the-moment audio to millions of listeners on Twitter.
Interestingly, minutes after the Twitter-SoundCloud deal was sealed, Twitter revealed that an Apple sound card is also on the works. The Apple sound card links the tracks to the iTunes store in order to pre-order or buy the songs. Although it’s not just for music, the new card is Twitter’s latest attempt to make it easier for users to listen to songs. Perhaps, this move might just make Twitter the one-stop shop for all a user’s daily needs. What do you think?
