After Huffington Post reported that EDM is a $6.2 billion industry, Diplo‘s lawyer David Rappaport has joined law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips to help build the firm’s new artist management and dance music roster. Rappaport, who also represents Mad Decent, Phantogram, Cold War Kids and Dirty Projectors, will also be leading the law firm’s transaction into dance music.
Manatt which currently has indie artists like Death Cab For Cutie, The Belle Brigade and Banks on their roster, will be making a completely new venture into dance music, a completely uncharted territory for them. But seeing the growing popularity of dance music around the world year by year, plus with its current valuation standing at $6.2 billion, which will only grow from here, it could be a risk worth taking for the law firm.
