The champion of ethnic Indian inspired bass music, Nucleya, is back with a brand new production, and this one’s massive! He’s collaborated with global bass collective Alo Wala and renowned Panamanian rhymer MC Zulu on a hard-hitting track called “Little Loto”.
For those that don’t know, Alo Wala comprises of Chicago-born rapper Shivani Ahlowalia and tropical-styled Danish bass act Copia Doble Systema.
The track kicks off with dance hall beat work and a pluck based sample similar to the classic Chaka Demus and Pliers’ raggae track, “Murder She Wrote”. This is when Shivani comes in with her sick sick rhyming skills. This then breaks to some ethnic Indian street dhol work and a melodic sample of the ethnic South Indian brass instrument, the Nadaswaram. This works as an insane build up, leading to a massive hip-hop-esque drop with a pounding kick drum beat, that almost tore through my speakers. This then breaks again back to a dancehall mid-section with MC Zulu adding his lyrical flavour to it, layered over the pluck-bassline, before it kicks back up again to that face-smashing drop.
We usually love when there’s an amalgamation of global flavours to make one deliciously destructive hit. This one is a shining example of one such example, as it expertly blends dancehall, hip-hop and traditional Indian street music. This is how we take Indian music to the world!
