In a collaboration between IBM and musician James Murphy, technology is turning music on its head and showcasing the power of cloud technology and analytics ! Using algorithms, 400 hours of music has been created from the data of the U.S Open. Of course it is much more complicated than that and the video explains this process.

We’re gonna generate over 400 hours worth of music,” says Murphy. “I’m not gonna sit here and play 400 hours of music – I’m setting up a machine to do that. The primary music generator is the algorithm, it’s not me.

You can hear the tracks uploaded so far, ranging from Federer to Sharapova’s face-offs. Although this is not my idea of music, the concept is extremely intriguing and fascinating by virtue of its exclusive novelty. Subjective in nature, for some tennis and music lovers, this might be an interesting project indeed! A live streamed electronic music score created through an interface that mimics a synthesizer, this minimalist, spacey and unique music can be found here.
