No one does it quite like he can. I doubt anybody has the gumption required for it, or the thick skin that serves as a shield against the haters. The perks of being a powerful player is that people sit up and take notice of what you have to say/do, no matter how ridiculously hilarious it might be. Deadmau5 has taken his role as the voice of the people very seriously in the past, speaking out against major corporations that organize festivals, the promoters that he absolutely loathes, and the attendees who don’t attend his concerts for the music, but rather for the social significance attached to them. But when he’s not acting as the messiah of the people, Joel Zimmerman plays the role of a prankster, and boy does he play it well.
Here are some of his greatest hits:
1. During Ultra 2014, Deadmau5 performed a very old school set, so old that we were all reminded of pre-school. Right when the drop for ‘Animals’ was due, Deadmau5, the eternal trickster, switched it out for ‘Old Macdonald had a Farm’ and the crowd lost it, wondering if he had lost it for real.
2. The year was 2012, it was the Grammys. One of the most prestigious award ceremonies in North America. What I mean is that this was the one event where a LOT of media glare was concentrated. In walked Deadmau5, signature mau5 head and a black tee with the words ‘U Mad Bro?’ and a phone number printed across it. The number belonged to a Sonny Moore, or as all of us know him, Skrillex.
Poor guy, his phone would have melted with the number of phone calls coming in.
3. That time he took a pot shot at Flo Rida’s advertisement for Beamz

4. That one time he stopped his set and made everyone believe it was a Windows error. Well played Mister Zimmerman!
5. When Professor Meowingtons PhD was a strongly nominated candidate for the DJMAG Top 100 poll. While it was a hilarious joke, the underlying message was clear – Deadmau5 didn’t consider these polls to be a real measure of talent whatsoever.
6. And when Professor Meowingtons PhD endorsed the first ever ‘Cat Headphones’! Made by cats, for cats!
There was a flip side to this one. They actually did make 10 pairs, and all the proceeds went to ASPCA Charity
