Piyush Bhatnagar aka Sound Avtar, is definitely one of the biggest names out of the Indian bass scene. Voted Best Drum & Bass/Dubstep Dj/Producer by MYFAV Awards for the year 2012-13 &2013-14, there’s little room left for any wonder as to what makes him so good at what he does.
His newest release on Black Hole Recording’s sub divisional Rub-A-Duck label, is the massive Superhero EP that’s already made its way to the Beatport top 100 Dubstep charts.
This massive bass-heavy EP consists of two tracks, Superhero & Twisted.
The title track off the EP, Superhero is characterized by a massive, heavy and super sick bassline and pounding kick drum patterns, separated by snippets of serenely melodic and uplifting breaks scattered through. The breakdown leads to gorgeous melodic chord progressions and an extremely catchy synth melody, which leads the build up to a massive drop, that gives way to the earth-shatteringly heavy bassline as before.
The B side, Twisted is a more darker, more groove oriented production. It’s a got an almost electric bassline that kicks it off. Though the tempo seems lower than Superhero it packs the extra punch making it that much more grittier. The breakdown flips the entire track on its head, with breath-taking crystal synth arpeggios layered under a simplistic yet calming synth melody, and then POW it breaks away to that gritty, nasty bassline that we’d begun with, just as if someone’s moved the floor from under you.
