ZHU – Nightday [EP]

Mystery producer ZHU, who had about a month ago unveiled a tracklist featuring 6 original tracks and thus triggering a lot of anticipation, has released a brand new EP called ‘Nightday‘. The faceless producer made headlines after the breakthrough success of his Outkast’s “Ms. Jackson” last February and with this EP, he is sure to score legions of new fans and admirers! 

The EP features six tracks, all which form an untippling musical journey of beats and bliss as he combines various live instruments with some phenomenal cutting-edge studio work. The first track ‘Stay Closer‘ features an incessant Deep house bassline grappled with some alluring vocal work, to pack a punch and launch is into this Musical Narnia curated by ZHU! Peppered with some smooth guitar strings and occasional industrial percussion the track tosses and turns in moods and effect.

‘Faded‘ picks up on the signature left behind by ‘Stay Closer‘ as warm synth work rides on the hard hitting bassline. Hit past the quarter mark and a heavily edited vocal loop is meticulously synchronized with the rest of the elements to make it one of the highlights of the EP.

Genres lose their way with ‘Paradise awaits‘ as a caressing breakbeat loop dapples with a lot of vocal work. Various elements and effects are added timely, as wobbling synth and atmospherics give the track an underlying dark tone, while a breakbeat arpeggio loop makes this track one of the hardest to pin down on any particular sub-genre apart from ‘awesome’!

With ‘Superfriends‘ ZHU presents yet another production section from his studio, as an acid synth merges with a rap loop to bring back a powerful bassline to the addition of the aural experience. The track makes the energy superfluous and takes the EP into a moody terrain where vocals and synths find a semblance.

‘The One‘ takes the sweet caressing deep house groove and infuses it with some early acid stabs, backed by a wobbling melody. Peak time stretched vocals give the track a laid-back feel before the destructive bassline returns with some austere vocals. More and more elements are inserted into the frame making every turn unpredictable and turning the track into a rollercoaster ride within itself.

Perhaps the finest track on the EP, ‘Cocaine Model‘ is a fantastic culmination of so many moods and energies lent through the rest of the tracks on this beautiful EP. The track begins with warm waveforms, before a comforting vocal loop is garnished by acid stabs and a magical bassline. The track surmises all the signatures ZHU curated through every track on the EP as a fast-paced arpeggio loop adds further magic on this sensuous energy!

Thanks to the widespread reach of our Music community, there is always a question of certain artists and their work to be over-anticipated and over-hyped. We can say, with absolute certainty, that the anticipation on this sensational debut EP has been absolutely worth it as the product is fresh and marks new beginnings in the phase of electronica production.
