Best Sets at Ultra Music Festival 2014

Ultra-Music-Festival-Miami-2014-9

This years Ultra Music Festival had 250 of the best electronic acts from around the world, performing over 3 days at the sunny shores of Miami, Florida. For those who did manage to attend, we’re sure they’ve got memories that would last a lifetime, but for the rest of you who couldn’t make it, we’ve compiled a list of the best sets at Ultra Music Festival 2014.

Deadmau5

So the Mau5 had replaced Swedish DJ Avicii, as one of the headliners, due to the latter being hospitalised for a gall-bladder removal, and if any of you have paid any close attention to social media feeds, we all know what went down during his set. From trolling Martin Garrix, to paying homage (or trolling) Avicii with a surprise Levels mash-up, it was clear that he did what he wanted. However, he had featured a ton of underground techno during his set on the mainstage. Now that is something only the Mau5 can pull off and get away with. But, he did open the eyes of the masses to the beautiful world of the underground aspect of electronic music. Props to him for that!

Eric Prydz

Eric Prydz is always a wizard at the decks. Regarded as one of dance music’s divine, it goes without saying that his sets would always be ace.  However, this year at Ultra he debuted his HOLO project, which based on what we’ve read, has to be seen to be believed. The projections and hologram tech used were undoubtedly like nothing anyone has seen before, and will turn one of the weekend’s iller mixes into something even bigger.

Above & Beyond

Nothing can symbolise love more than listening to Above & Beyond live with your closest friends, while it rains. That’s what happened when they were on stage this year at Ultra. Apart from dishing out beautiful music that simply exemplify love, joy and happiness, their set was power-packed with some immense bangers!

Hardwell

The #1 DJ in the world! He had the honour of closing the festival Sunday night. The  Dutch producer brought the house down! Hardwell’s set took three months of preparation and featured 90% new music! Hardwell showed the world why he is king!

Gaia

Armin Van Buuren took stage in his special Gaia avtar and gave us all our favourite Gaia hits. His set at the Megastructure as part of the State Of Trance line up was catered purely to trance purists!

Alesso

We’re all aware of how melodic and breath-taking alesso’s special brand of music can be. His set at Ultra proved exactly that, with him dishing out some of his biggest hits and sending out immense emotional vibes to the audience.

Kaskade

Kaskade stepped up to the Main Stage for a consummate hour of what he simply calls “big ass festival sounds.” Less than 24 hours after finishing his set, the Atmosphere creator uploaded the recording to SoundCloud as a free download.

W&W

Another Saturday main stager, W&W, brought an impressive set. Their new tune ‘Bigfoot’ shook the crowd alive, along with other tracks from fellow Revealed Records labelmates. Now folks know why Hardwell signed them to his label!

DJ Snake

The French DJ slayed the audience members at Ultra with his bass-heavy set that featured a diverse range of genres from trap, to hip-hop to dubstep to brostep. DJ Snake’s final moments at Ultra were his most inspired: In a bold choice no one could have predicted, he closed with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” It was playful, it took the crowd’s heart rate down, and it sounded just right as everyone stood together in the rain.

The Chainsmokers

We’re just up here f-cking around!” yelled The Chainsmokers from atop their perch. And that is exactly what they did, making sexual jokes over beats that popped like bubbles, and sampling the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and liberally incorporated referee whistles. Melodic and eclectic at the same time, the duo was somewhere in between Avicii and LMFAO, and had enough swagger to drop their sudden smash “#SELFIE” just 20 minutes into their set.

Fedde Le Grande

Taking a trip over to the Worldwide Stage, Fedde rocked his Sunday headlining set! He very clearly deserves the award for most drops that left the crowd yelling ‘OHHHHH!’

Jack U (Skrillex & Diplo)

Not much else can describe Skrillex and Diplo’s stellar and amazing performance at day 3 of Ultra Music Festival. The duo celebrated their world premiere festival performance of JACK U with a diverse and eclectic set with sounds that only these two could provide, driven by some never ending, ever rising tribal and bass infused sounds, this performance will rank as one of the best of this year’s Ultra. Not much more can be said other than that you have to experience JACK U for yourself.

Tiesto

One of the Godfathers of EDM just can NOT be left out of any Best Set compilation. Playing all of his his, and mixing them in true Tiesto talent, ie, skill honed over decades of performing, he had the entire audience sing out loud to almost all of his tracks.
