Ravers are a stylish coterie. Beautiful clothes make beautiful people, and the crowd at UMF is no exception. With Ultra Music Fashionable blowing up Miami this weekend, The Bangin’ Beats prophesies the types of ravers that you’re bound to see.

1. The Ultra Nationalist

These patriots fashion capes, sarongs, scarves, you-name-it, out of their country’s flags, when they’re not waving them in the crowd with such fervour that they could easily be yelling ‘Toro!’ Shooting from the skies of over 40 countries across the world, these caped superheroes have never been as passionate about their homeland as they are when in a foreign land. Their bikinis, caps, havaianas, down to their manicures, are proudly patterned with the hues of the motherland. India, represent!

2. The Kandi Kid

You can’t miss the ubiquitous flower-powered fashion that does the rounds at any love music fest. These millennials are synonymous with the neo-60s generation, and UMF is their Woodstock. Wearing wreaths of roses and Kandi bracelets (jelly, metal, rubber, anything goes), they eat, sleep, PLUR, repeat, and can thus be found making peace signs and hand hearts. Distributing candy better than Santa does, it goes unsaid that the energy of these walking talking sunbursts of colour is contagious.

3. The Tan Men & Women

Whether it’s the gym or genetics, you’ll always find those with perfectly toned beach bods and sun-kissed skin flaunting it, axing the East Coast’s reputation for sub-zero temperatures. Like Aphrodites that come awash on the shores of South Beach or Abercrombie models that just sauntered off a shoot, these ravers are sexy and they know it. They’re clothed in anything but clothes, from tasseled pasties to glitter tattoos, and strut around the venue like it’s their private boudoir. Not that we mind.

4. The Merch Lover

This type of raver blends in seamlessly with the festival grounds. It’s the Mau5head who can’t stop grinning. It’s the Guy Fawkes mask who has nothing Toulouse. It’s the plainclothes wearer whose stamp of raver approval is a pair of U-monogrammed sunglasses. True EDM loyalists, this breed is usually spotted wearing tank tops that are branded with the Tiesto eagle or SHM blot circles.

5. The Accessory Addict

Coco Chanel once said, “When accessorizing, always take off the last thing you put on.” However, au contraire to the pearls of wisdom from the French fashionista and the less-is-more philosophy of raver type No. 3, these rebels tend to overdose at music festivals – on accessories, that is. They accessorize to the nines with rollerblades, feathers, headbands, fluffy boots (what?), neon-anything, and a raver buddy on their shoulders. And sunglasses. You can’t forget the sunglasses. Reflective, wayfarer, aviator, Posh spice – they could be runway models for Sunglass Hut.

6. The Trendsetters

Screen Shot 2014-03-28 at 6.46.38 PMThis category can only be found behind the console, aka the DJs. Headliners and performers have a style of their own, which can only be described as BOSS (not necessarily Hugo). Their favourite item to wear (besides their headphones of course) are their shirts – cue Steve Aoki’s tank with a silhouette of himself (#aokifiedboss), Zedd’s only signature plaid shirt (#IDGAFboss), or Liv Nervo’s multi-chromatic peasant top (#ladyboss). Whether it’s Nicky Romero making Google glass cool or Axwell wearing his headphones Google glass style, Mim Nervo’s bowler hat or Porter Robinson’s indestructible flick, these bosses onstage are guaranteed to inspire trends that leave an indelible mark on festival fashion (refer to raver type No. 4).

So over-accessorized or underdressed, you’ll fit right in. Because when it comes to Ultra Music Festival goers, they come, they deck out, they rave, and we always love it.
