mau5 india!

It’s incredibly tough to put into words a feeling, an anticipation that has lived deep inside the dance music fan in you for a number of years gone by. That is exactly what we’re sure many of you felt when after waiting endlessly for quite simply one of the most celebrated artists in the history of electronic music to make his way to India, we were blown away to proportions beyond measure by dance music event giant Sunburn who gave fans throughout the country what could be termed as the biggest tour of 2014 so far.

Leaving no stone unturned, Sunburn chose to stop at nothing & raised the bar remarkably high with the event. Not only were we treated to exhilarating performances in Mumbai, Bangalore & Delhi by the dance music legend Joel Zimmerman, better known as Deadmau5 who completely outdid himself in each city, but to add to that was a tireless barrage of smashing electro monsters prior to the mau5’s performances by the ace Dutch producer, R3hab. Apart from the hefty arsenal of music; grandiose visuals, jaw-dropping stage & sound production in each city amongst a number of other things captured many a fans fascination.

Certainly, it’s safe to say all hell clearly broke loose at the tour and each moment had something special attached to it. However, we decided to relive a few special defining moments of the tour with you which were certainly, worth cherishing.

R3hab makes the crowd sing along to the anthem of 2013, ‘Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat’

Right after it was released by dance music megastar, Fatboy Slim, “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat” shot right to the top of a number of charts and became a global dance music anthem last year. The track was also picked up and given stupendous remixes by a host of producers. When R3hab let loose one such adrenaline pumping remix of the track in Delhi, not only did the highly energetic crowd raise their hands and dance with elan but they also sang along zealously with the chorus as the Dutch producer/DJ faded in & out of the track effortlessly.

The Dutchman & the epic crowd selfie

Another global phenomenon, ‘the selfie’ has taken the world completely by storm of late and it even led duo on the rise, The Chainsmokers to release a track of the same name. However, R3hab took things a notch higher during the tour as he chose to generate even more vigour in the crowd by first pumping them up and then clicking a selfie with them in each city which put a smile on the face of many a fan. Tell us which one you were part of in the comments section below!

R3hab works up a storm with his set; crowds stand transfixed with eyes rooted to the stage for Deadmau5’s impending arrival

R3hab had the large crowds in each city raging to one monstrous smash hit after another prior to Deadmau5 taking stage. His set’s proved to be a perfect blend of energy & excitement and served as a perfect build up for the storm which was to come. Definitely winning hearts of many as he went about his business, R3hab played a fantastic set in each city, one which will be talked about for long and as he rounded up his set and moved away from the console, fans stood transfixed almost unable to move with their eyes rooted to the stage for the mau5’s arrival.

Mau5head’s everywhere

As the crowds in Mumbai, Bangalore & Delhi grooved along to one gem after another, a number of mau5head’s could be spotted at each venue which added to the captivating atmosphere perfectly bringing about more power, pizzazz and excitement. Clearly, India couldn’t conceal their delight as they finally witnessed Deadmau5 live!

Deadmau5 imbibes the Indian spirit right away in Mumbai; quenches his thirst with a ‘Lassi’ & wears a mau5 turban!

Almost all of us who had been following the developments of the tour via twitter and other media already knew that Deadmau5 couldn’t contain his excitement about coming to India finally and experiencing what it feels like to play here. However, at his iconic performance in Mumbai not only did he vocally express his joy but also asked for a ‘lassi’ to quench his thirst and took off his mau5 head, only to don a mau5 turban!

Deadmau5 dazzles the crowd with ‘Strobe’, a few fans shed a couple of tears whilst smiling with glee

If you are a fan of Deadmau5 or just an electronic music loyalist, chances are “Strobe” features right on the top of your list of favourites. The stunning production invokes a million different emotions in you as it progresses and similarly when the mau5 dropped it closer to the end of his set in Delhi, it left majority of the crowd overwhelmed, while quite a few even shed a couple of tears while smiling at the same time in happiness. Truly, a special feeling!

Stunning visuals sync perfectly with the mau5’s audio onslaught

Whether it was Mumbai, Bangalore or Delhi the visuals throughout Deadmau5’s set stood out & how! Synced perfectly with each track, the visuals were the subject of admiration of a great number of fans throughout the tour in each city and perfectly blended in with the splendid tunes the mau5 was unleashing. Absolutely stunning, weren’t they?

Raise your weapon!

In Bangalore & Delhi, the one track that made everyone completely lose it and go berserk was Deadmau5’s last track, “Raise Your Weapon”. While in Bangalore, Joel had the crowd in splits when he said, “Alright guys this is my new track which is going to be the last song of the night, its called ‘Levels’”, taking an amusing dig at Avicii before unleashing the track, in Delhi he came out from the console to chat with the crowd as the crowd chanted for one more track which he obliged but only after playfully & amusingly saying, “Okay…Delhi so you want one more, LET’S DO IT!”

We cannot even put in words, the energy, the love and excitement that went through the crowd, when he played this track as they jumped and screamed with joy.

After the perfect build up in Mumbai & Bangalore, Dalermau5 set Delhi ablaze!

The Deadmau5 – Daler Mehndi saga, which on twitter-verse came to be known as the Dalermau5 saga began a little before the tour after our interview with Joel, and grew with each passing day which led to the tour gaining tremendous momentum and a little later, Deadmau5 even teased an extremely special edit of the Bhangra superstar’s track, “Tunak Tunak” which was played by him for the first time at his Future Music Festival Asia performance just before his arrival in India. Mumbai & Bangalore were treated to the special edit and wild would probably be an understatement if you ask us how the crowd reacted, but the mau5 wasn’t done, not just yet.

Joel not only surprised us by going on a coffee run with the Indian legend, he also got Daler Mehndi to join him on stage and perform a vocal melody of Bhangra songs along with the edit of “Tunak Tunak”, setting Delhi ablaze with the special performance. Deadmau5 admits to being enamoured by India

We all knew Deadmau5 was overjoyed to be in India and perform for us all, and throughout the tour he was exceedingly vocal about his love for the country and his fans here. Whether it was holding up the Indian flag in each of the cities or wishing Delhi a ‘Happy Holi’ there were many instances which clearly established that Joel had embraced the Indian culture and was clearly enamoured by India.

He chose to round up his gig in Delhi and with it the tour by saying, “I don’t usually agree with too many DJ’s but I will agree with Axwell who once said, ‘When I want money, I play in Vegas; When I want to party, I play in Miami but when I want fucking love, I play in India!'”
