Ring those bells, pop the champagne and bring out the cakes. It’s yet another list of award results! The world’s leading online provider of music, Beatport, announced the winners of its in all categories of the 2014 Beatport Awards. Considering that the Beatport sales charts serve as the industry barometer for what tracks are currently jumping in the clubs before crossing over into the mainstream besides offering tools to help DJs manage their careers, promote their productions and performances, and connect with the largest community of qualified fans on the planet, this list of awards can be deemed to be comprehensive as they cover various facets and logistics from musical production to artist performances.
Beatport employed social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram besides their own website to announce the awards category by category. While Martin Garrix and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike emerged as winners in multiple categories, Nina Kraviz and Daft Punk walked away with big prizes as well as we take a closer look at the categories and all the winners!
Beatport Sales Awards

Best-Selling Album of the Year: Random Access Memories (Daft Punk)
Tis comes as no surprise as the Robots from France emerged as the winners of this category. Having already notched up a string of awards, including the all-important Grammy‘s, the Electronic music pioneers complete a clean sweep of this category in all major Award contentions.
Best-Selling Original Track of the Year: “Animals” (Martin Garrix)
Let’s just face it. We all have yelled out the iconic vocal sample whenever it has dropped in our favorite Gig or festival. No DJ could resist including this giant release on their playlists and ensuring mass pandemonium on the dancefloor. Martin Garrix – a deserved winner.

Best-Selling Remix of the Year: “Got A Feeling (Bontan Remix / Pleasurekraft Edit)” (Josh Butler, Bontan, Pleasurekraft)
Bontan and Pleasurekraft massive co-work on remix duties for this Josh Butler track reminded us that everything blissful and euphoric about Dance Music may not necessitate a “drop”. The warm and mesmerizing signatures with those chunky dabs of bass and synth made this track a goto track for any DJ whenever the party fervor seemed to drop.

Best-Selling Compilation of the Year: Toolroom Ten (Various Artists)
UK based Toolroom records have had a busy 2013 with a string of standalone releases, EP releases and remix packs. But it was their carefully handpicked compilations that generated immense buzz and interest from Industry pundits. It’s only fair that their Decadal celebration compilation mixed by the versatile Mark Knight found its place on pole position.
DJ Choice Award (for the track appearing in the most Beatport DJ Charts): “Animals” (Martin Garrix)
Martin Garrix and ‘Animals‘ pick up another award through this category, as the track proved to be a DJ favorite as well. Umpteen versions, remixes and samples of the tracks were used by DJ’s across genres, as everyone tried to join enjoy the piece of the pie garnished by Garrix!

Beatport’s DJ of the Year: Nina Kraviz
Siberian sensation Nina Kraviz emerged as a surprise winner in this category, as the Underground practitioner took the award for DJ of the year! Playing along the fine lines of house and techno influenced by the good times of Chicago house and Detroit techno, her sets lend a unique sound and uncompromising attitude that made Kraviz one of the most in demand artists from last year! Her itenary included major festivals like the Amsterdam Dance Event, Sonar, Decibel, Awakenings and DEMF, as well as landing a much-coveted residency at Richie Hawtin’s ENTER. project at Space in Ibiza plus regular appearances at clubs including Berghain, Fabric and The Warehouse Project. Certainly spelling a great tale for the times of ahead for the Techno spectrum, as Nina’s victory will be celebrated by Techno heads around the world!
Beatport’s Musical Collaboration of the Year: Borderland (Juan Atkins & Moritz von Oswald)
Defining the gritty Berlin-Detroit axis at its best are the very talented Juan Atkins and Moritz Von Oswald. While the duo have collaborated before in the past,’Borderland’ was their first proper album together. Recorded in Berlin, it combines Techno with the fluid serenity of Jazz sounds and a deep resonance of dub all encompassed within a heavy concoction of warm and mesmerizing pads and atmospherics. A top-notch choice by the Beatport staff!
Beatport’s Best New Artist: Flume
Harley Edward Streten, better knows as Flume, caught everyone’s attention this year with his unique range of sounds and instrumental capabilities. The 22-year-old Australian had a stunning year as his debut album from late 2012 garnered immense positive feedback from critics and fans alike. His tracks “Insane” and “Drop the Game” soared in the charts reaching staggering heights in a short span of time. Certainly, an artist for the future, he’d be the one to look out for in the months to come!

Beatport’s Lifetime Achievement: Cajmere (a/k/a Green Velvet)
Curtis Jones, has been a DJ for so long, that Beatport could choose from the string of many aliases and reserve this award for! Jones, also known as Cajmere, Geo Vogt, Green Velvet, Half Pint, Curan Stone, and Gino Vittori, is a singer songwriter and producer who has been part of the House music industry for over quarter of a century! His contribution to Dance music did not go undeterred as Beatport recozgnised this emphatic benefactor of House music with this prestigious award.
Beatport’s Track of the Year: “Jack” (Breach)
Breach reached new heights in terms of musical appreciation with the minimalistic ‘Jack‘ last year. The original teased clubgoers and festival freaks with its propelling vocal hook alongwith the catchy riff and melody in the back. With almost every DJ using some vocal sample from the track and using it in mashups and bootlegs, the track became an iconic signature statement in the club scene around the world.

Album of the Year: Intense – Extended Versions (Armin Van Buuren)
The most Intense DJ of the World Armin Van Buuren walks with arms raised and that smile on his face, as he deservedly picks up this award. Featuring a plethora of talent in terms of Singer-songwriters and monstrous collaborations, Armin’s fifth studio album rounded off with his Armin Only Tours around the world (including Mumbai!) made this album a deserved winner in this category.

Track of the Year: “Mammoth” (Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, Moguai)
The Belgian brothers join forces with Moguai to pick up another award, as this category may well be of prime importance to DJ’s and producers around the world. Voted by fans from all over the globe, their mammoth ‘Mammoth‘ emerged as a deserved winner, as those tribal grooves married to the ceremonious synth made this track easily one of the mightiest releases of the past year!

Label of the Year: Spinnin’ Records
Founded in 1999 by Eelko van Kooten and Roger de Graaf, the influential Dutch record label, has time and again pushed artists and DJ’s to come up with the strongest artillery of dancefloor anthems. While most of their releases find their way into the Beatport top 10, its their unending and undying commitment to consistency that makes us feel they deserve this award for all the great releases they’ve thrown our way!

Artist of the Year: Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike
Despite holding the sixth spot on the DJ Mag, the Belgian brothers emerged as champions of this category, as fans from all over the world pointed in their direction when quizzed this question. After a string of emphatic performances at the biggest clubs and festivals around the world (including Sunburn Mumbai), the duo wreaked havoc in their absence through their startling studio productions as well. Always on top on all of their social media platforms, they find a way to connect with their fans in unique and in-genuine ways, perhaps further validating their dominance in the hearts of their fans!

On behalf of all of us here at Beatport, I’d like to congratulate all the winners of this year’s Beatport Awards. 2013 was a pivotal year in the evolution of dance music, something each of the names on this list contributed to with their talent, passion, and creativity. They certainly deserve all the recognition they are now receiving, and I’m incredibly honored to present them with the honor of a Beatport Award.
