Gig Review: Cedric Gervais at Kitty Su, New Delhi

There are certain nights where you think that it’s going to be just another set, similar to what you’ve heard a few times before, but in reality the music and the night itself leave you completely stunned and the emotion within each individual in the crowd is that of a fan, a die-hard fan of quality talent straight up. Such nights, not only surprise you, they also enthrall you, captivate you and make sure you have a complete blast!

Speaking of a having a blast, Kitty Su along with WMS gave us just that kind of a night when the French powerhouse DJ-Producer-Actor, Cedric Gervais came to give New Delhi an extremely surreal night.

Taking a quick look into the life of the man himself, Gervais was the youngest resident ever at Paris’s well known ‘Le Queen Club’. In 1998, he moved to America’s South Beach and despite being only 15 years old when he left for Miami, he soon held residencies at Crobar (now Cameo) and the famous Nikki Beach, before taking over the Club Space Terrace. His first single, “Burning”, was with Ultra Records. In 2006, his debut album “The Experiment”, featured the single “Spirit in My Life”, also on Ultra Records.

His production credits include working with superstars such as Lenny Kravitz, Deep Dish, Steve Lawler, and Rachel Star, among others. His single “Mauri’s Dream”, from 2009, was Pete Tong’s Essential Tune of the Week three weeks in a row. In 2011, Gervais released his second album, titled “Miamication”.

As we entered the club it was already close to being packed and the resident DJ, Irvin was warming things up spectacularly. Making the crowd groove to an incredible set, Irvin had a smile on his face as he treated us to one electro bomb after another and from how he was going about his business; his unquestionable passion for dance music was made, more than clear.

A little close to midnight, after a great opening set by Irvin, to the joy of a packed audience at Kitty Su, Cedric took to the console for what was going to be the beginning of a set which would blow me and everyone in the crowd away completely.

Kicking things off with an electro infused reworked vocal sample of his smash hit, “Molly” which was cleverly reworked to announce, “Please help me find Cedric Gervais”; Cedric started his set to an incredible uproar from all who were present.

Keeping the energetic crowd on their feet, Cedric dished out some massive tunes right from the start. As he went about churning out monstrous tunes, it wasn’t long before he churned out “Molly” (which legendary pop-star, Madonna is also a fan of) much to the delight of the crowd.

Building on the energy “Molly” had generated, Gervais kept the crowd raging on and gave us a perfect example of why he is regarded as a master of his craft. It was only a while before he exhibited his genius once again by fantastically looping the current track and then all of sudden, blending in his highly acclaimed remix of Lana Del Ray’s, “Summertime Sadness” as the crowd let out a loud outburst proclaiming their delight.

Amidst incredibly loud cheer, where yours truly also chimed in, Cedric dropped Hardwell’s anthemic track, “Spaceman” next and the already highly energized crowd, picked up steam and raged even harder.

As the crowd kept grooving and raging to the unimaginable set Cedric was playing, we noticed how he went from track to track with ease & how composed and poised he was, smiling at us as he was wreaking havoc with his powerful set.

A little while later as is with all good things in life, soon the much dreaded moment arrived and it was time Cedric said goodbye to New Delhi and the resident DJ, DJ Flynn took over the console.

To conclude all we can say is that the Frenchman truly gave us an incredible night and played an exquisite set packed with massive drops which incorporated smooth transitions from one banger to another.

The club was considerably full to its capacity and all those who had eagerly awaited the man of the moment, to see what he had to offer slowly strolled out of the venue not only satisfied but locked in the euphoria of what they had just witnessed.

Guess when it’s about one of the best nightclubs in the city, we can definitely expect only the best from across the globe to be entertaining us!
