The cultural climate for women in India currently is oppressive at best and dangerous at worst. Across the country, women are being made to feel unsafe and fearful. Everywhere, the underlying message is the same: women are powerless.It’s time to recognize that women are strong, confident, and talented. Steel is a step in that direction — a brand-new clubbing property that brings together India’s best female DJs in a show of strength and solidarity.
Conceptualised by Pearl and supported by Submerge, the first Steel night will be held at Club Royalty, Waterfield Rd., Bandra on May 16. Kini Rao and Vandana will play the inner room while Pearl and Priyanjana will play the outer room creating for the first time two completely different zones at this club. They will be joined by two Visual artists who will bring their video mapping skills to further enhance this clubbing experience.
Everything about the night, from the lighting and decor to the door policy, will reflect Steel’s core aim: to end the objectification of women, permanently. Steel will be doing away with door and club policies which imply in any way that women are not capable of taking care of themselves or being independent.
‘Steel’ will host its first show on Thursday, 16th May at Royalty in Mumbai. The line up boasts of DJ Pearl, Priyanjana, Kini Rao & Vandana. A short quote from Pearl to describe Steel and it’s aim :
