Reviewing the India leg of Swedish House Mafia‘s #onelasttour together, the announcement of which literally made the country reach a new high, is not going to be easy, at all but hopefully, you’ll like the attempt!

Thanks to great efforts by Mr Shailendra Singh and his team at Percept and SUNBURN Festival and the ever versatile, Nikhil Chinapa and submerge.in team, we had the legendary trio from Sweden descend the shores of one of the busiest cities of the world, our very own, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

There was an electrifying buzz surrounding the city as the swedes arrived and fans were said to be standing at the airport as well as the hotel with banners showing their love for one of the biggest & best artists in dance music today, it was time for “Sunburn Arena with Swedish House Mafia and Submerge and the city was ready to rage!

Fans at the airport

Taking an unfortunate turn of events, the fans who were present to witness probably one of the biggest concerts the country has ever seen, had to return empty handed due to cancellation of the concert owing to the demise of political leader, Bal Thackeray. Though the future promises to be amazing with Sunburn true to their word; rescheduling the Mumbai show for the 22nd of Jan 2013 and adding another city in the form of “Bangalore” to the scheme of things; which will be held on the 20th Jan 2013! Stay glued to www.sunburn.in for more information on that.

Coming to the second leg of the India leg of the trio’s tour, the swedish ship sailed to the capital of the country, one of the most magical cities of the world, New Delhi, India.

In the capital, it’s said that a staggering 30,000+ fans attended the concert which to me still feels like a dream. The number of attendees in itself is a milestone. Delhi was definitely given it’s best concert ever.

You could sense the mayhem beginning right from the drive upto the Unitech Golf Course. On reaching the venue, people, fans or better said die hard electronic music fanatics were already standing together talking to each other with one Swedish House Mafia track after another blasting through their car speakers; clearly the excitement was at it’s pinnacle.

On entering the venue there was a superb uproar of friends greeting each other with a great musical vibe surrounding the place. The team at Percept, headed by Mr. Shailendra Singh did a fantastic job in every aspect of executing one of the nations most popular music concerts. Most important being crowd management & venue layout. With a wide array of bars and lounges one could easily fetch that cold beer and get back to the music without wasting much time. Even the cash counter for purchasing drinks were clearly marked out, positioned and planned! The sponsor pods were well set up; and a venue as large as the Unitech property was very aptly utilised. But to be honest what caught my eye was the amazing production- stage production to be precise, the sound and visuals, simply put, was INCREDIBLE. Kudos to all the team members that were there to help out and be as jovial, while at work!

Mr Shailendra Singh with Axwell, Ingrosso & Angello minutes before the show

After some good opening sets by DJ Mash, resident of Kitty Su at The Lalit Hotel, New Delhi and Nawed Khan; did not just build the excitement but also got the crowd moving that drew a great response! On approaching the last few tracks by the opening artists we all knew, it was time.

I couldn’t believe my eyes, Nikhil Chinapa and Rohit Barker made the announcement, the veil was lowered and everyone present was chanting “SHM… SHM…” repeatedly, which certainly made the venue echo and take the currently amazing vibe to a whole new level.

With some clever, in fact great visuals, Swedish House Mafia announced they were ready to take the house down at New Delhi. As soon as the intro of a personal favourite, “Greyhound” began alongwith some mind boggling visuals (a video of which can be seen below), everyone in the arena began to rage.

The veil was lifted, and the 3 magicians could be seen weaving their magic. Track after track went by and it all seemed to be a beautiful dream. The swedes played an amazing set coupled with the hardwork of their laser, lights, visuals etc. crew, they had brought with them who totalled to over 20 people. The outstanding fireworks at different intervals of the set also added to the magic Delhi was witnessing.

It was amazing how people, fans please pardon me kept the energy flowing from all corners of the venue, track after track, which reminds me, here’s a complete track list of what we gathered of the Swedhish House Mafia’s set –

We have also uploaded a one-hour mix dedicated to Swedish House Mafia and inspired from their set in New Delhi on our soundcloud page. So go ahead have a listen to it and relive your #SHM moments.

The most definitive moments of the night came of course with the visual of the Indian flag coming up on the huge visual screen on the main stage behind the swedes on the console, the legends asking the whole crowd to sit down & jump up with them on the drop of the massive #DYWC and definitely with the last track, before which everyone screamed, “Save the World”

With that the night ended and everyone walked away or just sat down where they were, coming to terms with what they had just witnessed & wishing in their hearts that this wasn’t Swedish House Mafia’s #ONELASTTOUR and they would return again, as for yours truly, I’m still in a daze, and working on making it for the show in Mumbai or Bangalore!

To end, all we can say is thank you Nikhil Chinapa, thank you Submerge, thank you Sunburn and of course, thank you Swedish House Mafia!! We cannot wait to catch you live once again, this time a “One Last De-Tour”.
